CHAPTER FIVE

What's Going On?

(How many times did I burn my cheeks?)

After ordering our food, Mina went to the rest room and I took out my phone. There were a couple of texts from Karthik about half an hour before.

😊🤩

how did it go?

Had supply issue, chicken came late and some other hiccups,

But food was great and finished ON TIME.

Overall excellent

Thanks in part to you too😃

Let me know how yours go

Good luck again!

"What are you smiling at?" Mina asked playfully.

"Oh, just thanking Karthik and wishing him good luck."

"Why are you thanking your annoying rival?" her tone was still playful with a hint of confusion.

Realising I forgot to tell her I said, "Oh, we're friends now."

"When did that happen?"

"Last week."

"How?"

"We were studying in the library together,"

"Again, how?"

"I was in the library doing my assignments. He came and asked for my help. He told me he could do more assignments than me. It turned into a fun competition. And then we talked about our misunderstanding and became friends."

She thought for a few seconds before looking back at me, "If he's the one asking for your help, why did you thank him?"

"Oh, I asked him to help my cooking. That's also why I did pretty good today."

"When? Where? Why?"

"What? Who? How?" I said grinning.

She squinted her eyes, showing she was serious.

"We met up three times for a few hours at my apartment–

"You just let a man you barely know into your home? Did you at least tell anyone?"

"I did tell my housemate, and she was there on the first day," I explained.

She sighed in relief.

I appreciated her concern but I did feel a bit annoyed that she thought I was that stupid.

"What did you guys do there?" she interrogated.

"Well, he taught me how to cook faster and I taught him some Word skills."

"Because...?"

"'Cause I'm a bit slow in that regard, and he needed help with his documents.

After that, she looked at me in silence for a long time. I was glad our food arrived and she had to stop staring. It was short-lived, however, since she just thanked the waiter and watched me again. Feeling uneasy at her staring, I started to eat my food and asked, "What?"

She blinked once and said, "Do you like him?"

I coughed, the food nearly went to the wrong pipe. I swallowed, calming myself, "As a friend? Sure."
