CHAPTER 12
Karthik v. The People Inside His Head
"KARTHIK," Lord Sopheap shouted.
"Karthik!" Rashmi exclaimed.
The two of them stood on either side of me.
Rini gave me two thumbs up before disappearing.
"What's up, guys?" I asked while trying to summarise the recent discoveries in my head.
"We need to talk," Lord Sopheap said.
I remembered that there was one other person I wanted to consult before I duked it out with them-the old and wise Roger.
"Can I take a rain check? There's something else I need to do first."
"No, we need to-"
I got up from my seat and headed out of my room. I really was going to talk to them, but I was done having them steamroll my choices.
After having dinner, I texted Roger.
The next day after work, I met him at his place.
"So, what's up?" he said as he took a bite out of the Pizza I brought.
"I want to ask Shreya out again."
"You've never asked her out."
"I did! For our second date!"
"Which didn't happen because of you."
"I know..."
"So, why?"
"My reasons for breaking up with her were disproven?"
"Why were your past lives suddenly okay with it?"
"No... Well, one is okay with it. The two main ones are not. I'm going to convince them tonight. I just want your perspective on this first."
"Because I'm wise and awesome?"
"And old, with tons of experience failing."
Roger said he had dated tons of people before finally deciding at 26 to be single for a bit to work on himself. By a bit, I mean for one and half years and still counting, but he did have great insights.

"Dang dude, well done with all the paperwork," Roger said.
"Thanks to Shreya," I said, smiling at the memory of her focused look as she double-checked the completeness of my work against her checklist.
"Huh?" he asked.
I told him about the week before practicals and how Shreya and I helped each other. To which he had the odd response trying not to grin.
"What?" I asked.
"Shreya's great, isn't she?"
"Yeah," I smiled.
"Must be nice to get help from your crush."
"I- I don't have a crush on her."
"Sure, bud."
A crush. Was that why I dressed in my favourite outfit last week? Was my past life right??
Nah, I just liked that outfit. That's why I hated that I splotched greasy water on it.
