CHAPTER TEN
Is It Her?
Her eyes were cold and she chuckled without humour, "I just don't want to have to see you if you passed out. So, take care," She took my hand, placed the scarf in it and walked away.
I just stood there and watched her leave me. The glass door she entered closed with a click, and I couldn't see her anymore. All I could see was my own reflection holding her scarf in my hand.
"Go on, dear," Lakshmi Aunty said.
Right.
I brushed the scarf with my thumb before wrapping it around my neck.
I ambled back to my own apartment.
She was angry at me. But why? I mean if she was angry because I broke up with her, that's more than fair. That was why I asked the question. She shouldn't care about me anymore, right?
Well, she did say that she didn't want to see me if I passed out, so there's that.
As the wind hit my body, I was glad I was nicely covered from the neck down.
Even after saying that she still made sure that I took the scarf. Seriously why was she so lovely?
I really hope she'll get through this and be happy in the future.
As for me, I didn't know how I would feel, but I knew I needed to cancel the meat I ordered for our date. Maybe I could start adding my shifts tomorrow too. Hopefully, Shreya and I could at least still be friends when she gets back next semester.
The next day I received good news and bad news. My head chef told me I could come in, and that my new schedule was Tuesdays to Saturdays. I couldn't cancel the goat meat, so, I decided to keep it in the freezer and cook it on Sunday or Monday. Maybe I could ask Roger to come.
u want to come eat at my place sunday?
sure
should I bring a date?
what for?
its awkward if it's just me, you, and your girlfriend
Right, I haven't told him yet.
it's just u and me
and she's not my girlfriend
you havent asked her out yet?
you got no game, dude
it's not that
then?
we broke up
damn..
yeah..
want to go out for drinks?
cant
got work
how about sunday?
okay
I clicked the back button on my phone, and below Roger's and my head chef's text was Shreya's. I already looked at her reply from last night, but I still felt compelled to look at it again.
reached home safely
thanks to your scarf
