EMMA'S POV

"LISTEN, EMMA. Mama has to go very, very far away. So, I want you to live with your Grandpa from now on. Be a good girl and don't cause any trouble."

The last time I saw Mama, her lips were redder and she also smelled flowers as she knelt before me. I was only a little girl at that time.

"When will you come for me?" I asked her innocently.

"Once my business is done," Mama simply answered. She began to walk away and never once turned to look back, leaving me behind in front of my grandfather's house. I was already aware of her true feelings. I knew that she had abandoned me for good, but I chose to remain quiet about it and still believed she would return for me.

Later, I was called to my grandfather's dojo. Next to me were two boys: one was much older than the other. Standing before us was our grandfather, and he stated that the three of us would be siblings starting today onwards. I had no reaction hearing that I had two brothers who both looked silly to me.

The boy named Manjiro mistook me for a foreigner because of my name and was hit by Grandpa. Meanwhile, the older one named Shinichiro tried to act friendly with me, yet I shut him down immediately and even roasted him about his weird hairstyle.

Days passed, and I stayed with my new family and still had a hard time adjusting to my environment. I had little interaction with everyone in the house and remained distant from them. Most of the day, I would just sit around and do nothing. I was still holding onto hope that Mama would come back for me one day despite knowing the fact that she did not care about me.

Once, I quietly watched Grandpa teaching his students at the dojo while hiding myself at the entrance. My older brother, Shinichiro, appeared out of nowhere and complimented one of Grandpa's students by the name of Keisuke, who seemed to be the same age as my other brother, Manjiro.

Grandpa spotted him through Keisuke and scolded him for skipping his training sessions. But my older brother had already run out of the dojo and disappeared somewhere, probably going to his friends. Paying him no mind, my attention was brought back to the students, and I noticed my other brother, Manjiro, doing his own training. I was pretty amazed at how talented he was despite his young age. I even heard Grandpa say that he was a born genius.

Manjiro tried to approach me again and would attempt any method just to impress me. He will go as far as changing his name to a foreign one so that I wouldn't feel alienated, calling himself "Mikey". He was really a silly boy.

But it made me feel happy inside. I started to smile more and slowly began to warm up to my family.

I've never once felt lonely again.
