"Grandfather's gone and the Kim family no longer exists too, so all those grudges will soon pass."
Now, many broken clips flashed in Jennie's mind. There were happy ones and sad ones. In the end, she could only smile indifferently. "You shouldn't remember them either. After these storms have passed, it's not a bad thing to start a new life.
"I'm grateful for the ways you've protected me before. At least, before Krystal was stabbed by that knife, you've always been protective over me. So, you don't have to feel guilty or uneasy. No matter what, we've worked hard before. We can only say that our fate was too shallow. You weren't the one for me, and I'm not the princess you should be protecting."
When he heard her speech, Kai's expression became oddly dull. He forced a smile and then asked, "Do you hate me?"
Jennie shook her head very honestly. "I don't. I did resent you, but after that, I realized that there was nothing to hate. After all, as much as I hate you, you wouldn't be returning to my side. Hating someone is a very painful thing to do."
"Jennie, I let you down..."
Kai sighed. "Maybe this is karma! These days, I've been thinking a lot too. The person that caused all of this was me. If I had kept believing you, and not indulged Krystal and be deceived by her, it wouldn't have turned out like this. I know that I have sinned gravely. I want to compensate you, yet I don't know what else I can do."
"You don't have to think about whether you've let me down because these things aren't important to me anymore. As long as you make yourself proud, that'll be enough. I don't understand huge life principles either. Humans live for today and for a clear conscience. That's just it, isn't it?"
Jennie held her tea up to drink a sip and she did not look into his gaze with mixed emotions anymore. "You are now someone's father, and I will soon be a mother. I hope that you can raise your child well and not let them be like us. The last generation's grudges shall end with us. Can you fulfill this one request of mine?"
Jennie's words struck Kai by surprise. He stared at her for a long while. Suddenly, he did not know what else he could say. After a long while, he took a deep breath and nodded. "I know. I'll pay more attention. Jennie, you're a good woman. I'm very regretful and sad. There are things I've always wanted to say, but until now, I haven't been able to. I'm not afraid to tell you why I always come here. Actually, I was hoping to bump into you too to clarify things face to face with you."
"I know that I lost you completely from the moment I got into the car without turning back. However, I'm still lying to myself about you loving me so deeply. No matter what, you would still long for me, but actually, the moment I didn't turn back, you had already given up on me. You're the same as Aunty Son. Once you set your mind to something, it's very hard for you to change," Kai sighed as he spoke, his tone filled with helpless sorrow.
When she kept quiet, Kai suddenly clenched his fists tightly and asked, "Can we still be friends?"
Jennie was stunned. She looked up at him and saw that there was a sliver of hope in his eyes. Finally, she nodded. "Of course, we can, but I hope that you can be a mutual friend to me and him."
Him...
Kai's eyes dimmed. Of course, he knew who the 'he' she was referring to.
"Lisa is so lucky," he lamented.
Jennie just shook her head. "No, it should be me that's lucky. I'm grateful that in the moments when I was completely disheartened, I met him. Then, I realized that the brilliance of my life began with him."
Kai suddenly felt his heart seize with an ache. He gasped for a bit before saying with much difficulty, "You and he are truly each other's memorable sunshine. I just overestimated myself. Jennie, I wish that you and Lisa will love each other for life and be happy forever. Don't worry about all those past grievances. I'll do my best to make them stop with us. As for the grudges between the two of you, I'll stay out of it and not interfere. I just hope that in time, we can still be friends."
"You..." Jennie was a little surprised as she looked at Kai. She did not quite understand what he meant.
Nonetheless, Kai did not explain. He quietly set the cup aside and stood up unhurriedly.
"Okay, now that I've said all that to you, I feel much better. Jennie, you're someone worth having. I'll remember you forever. Goodbye!"
Then, his tall and lofty figure walked through the draping beaded curtains. Soon, the clear sound of beads clashing was heard, drowning those heavy footsteps.
Kai thought to himself that on the long roads ahead, he would not have much heart to fall in love with anyone anymore. In this extended period of time, he had been turning round and round in this dream-like world of relationships and had already lost himself. Now that he thought about it, he really lost so badly just as she had said. He could not measure up to even the tip of that guy's finger.
Alas, now, what else could he do?
At least, he had to find the courage to respect himself first!
Kai sighed as he quietly averted his gaze from Bamboo Teahouse and finally got into his car. The car drove slowly away, carrying a longing that was hard to part with.
The car left Bamboo Teahouse and sped all the way. Secretary Wang, who sat in the front passenger seat, had been looking at Kai through the rearview mirror. When he saw that Kai closed his eyes to rest as soon as he got into the car, Secretary Wang dared not say much.
It was only when the car had driven out of the byway that Secretary Wang softly asked, "CEO Han, do we head straight back to the office now?"
As the sudden voice broke his reverie, Kai slowly opened his eyes and looked to the wide road ahead. He said softly, "Go back to the Han residence. Also, help me book three flight tickets to San Francisco for tonight. Be quick and keep it a secret."
Secretary Wang was stunned. He seemed to know what Kai wanted to do, so he quickly suggested, CEO Han, would it be better if we discussed this with the Elder and Madam first?"
"Don't interfere with my business. Just do as I say. Of course, you can make your own decision. Whether you want to come with me or go with them, you choose for yourself."
Kai's voice was extremely hostile. You could hear that it was the kind of cold that cut through to the bones.
"CEO Han, of course, I'll go with you. I'm just worried that..." Secretary Wang said a little hesitantly.
