Her tone was light as the breeze, yet the man could keenly pick up a hint of dissatisfaction.
Inside the vast and quiet airport VIP lounge, Lisa held onto the railing with one hand while his deep gaze looked through the tinted windows at the landing airplanes. A faint curve flashed across his handsome face while he quietly listened to the woman's unhappy complaints. He did not immediately respond, so the two of them stayed quiet for a while.
Jennie waited for a while and when he did not answer, she asked softly again, "Why aren't you saying anything?"
He then chuckled, his deep voice as calm as water and containing a hint of warmth. "I'd like to hear what is it that made you doubt your husband's loyalty, Missus."
When she heard him teasing her, Jennie's gaze darkened. She leaned back against the chair as she casually took a book from the shelf on her side to hug to her chest. She said calmly, "Mr. Manoban, we've been married for almost a year now. Tell me what do you think of me?"
Why was this girl suddenly asking him about her character now?
Upon hearing this question, Lisa was a little taken aback. His dark eyes froze for a while, then he asked her back, "What do you think?"
"I don't know. I just know that I'm not perfect. Don't you always tell me that I have poor EQ?" she complained.
Lisa frowned and did not say anything.
She paused, then continued, "Tonight, I went to join VP Wang's birthday banquet and I met someone. She really surprised me. Do you want to know who it was?"
Lisa leisurely lit up a cigarette and responded calmly, "Who?"
Jennie held onto the book with one hand as she looked at the lamp that shone beside her. She sighed gently. "I met Miyeon, your previous fiancee. She's a really beautiful woman. If it were in the past, she would be the kind of beauty that could turn a country upside down. In fact, I can see that she's charismatic and quite capable too. She asked me how you were doing."
"What did you say then?" The man's tone was still calm and undisturbed on the other end, so she really could not tell how he felt.
"I really don't like the way she spoke. She's such a stunner, and yet you told me before this that she's... not as pretty as I am..."
Upon hearing her sad whining, his gently furrowed brows raised instead. His lips curved into an amused smile, yet his tone was still calm and stiff. "I thought you wouldn't ever feel threatened."
"What do you mean threatened? I just don't like her. I feel like she didn't come with friendliness, so I didn't speak much to her."
He chuckled out loud. "And here I thought something happened. It's okay if you don't like her. She can't force you to like her, can she? As good-looking as she may be, your Mr. Manoban doesn't fancy her. Besides, who can compare to your charisma and looks?
"I don't want to explain much about Miyeon. She's just an irrelevant woman. The fact that you could talk to me about the reason you're unhappy means that you have high self-awareness. It's great to rid of any unhappy suspicions or jealousy between us. I already knew about Miyeon's return, so I'm not surprised, but I am worried about you."
It was rare for him to explain so much. To her amusement, his tone was low and he was not annoyed at all.
"Jennie, we have a long way more to go. Whether or not we'll make the journey steadily depends on us. I have always trusted you, so I won't question you about your past. I always believe that your heart will only end up with me, just as you didn't question me about my past before. Back when I saw you sign the marriage papers, I admit I did feel mixed emotions since I gambled with marriage. I'm afraid of losing too."
When Lisa admitted to this, there was suddenly the hint of a faint smile on his face. "When I heard that you were willing to have the wedding ceremony with me, and being troubled over our child, I'm happy. No matter what, Jennie, I just want to spend the rest of my life worrying about you. The rest of my life belongs to only you. It's not worth letting these irrelevant people make you unhappy."
Upon hearing this, she suddenly felt her heart turn soft. They all said that women were more sensitive to hearing romantic speeches after all. She had to admit that she was worried that the rational side of her had become mush. Such heartfelt words were imprinted onto her heart. Instantly, a lump of emotions slowly rose from inside her heart and hot tears instantly welled up in her eyes. She then said in a raspy voice, "I'm sorry, Mr. Manoban. You're too good to me. I'm afraid that one day you'll suddenly... If that happens, I won't be able to take it..."
"Sometimes, I really want to hide you and not let other women know how good you are... Then, you can only stay by my side, and not go anywhere..."
After she blurted this out, Lisa immediately laughed out gently. His little woman was finally enlightened and knew to hold onto him tightly. This was definitely something worth being overjoyed about. It made him much more content than striking a huge business deal.
"Don't say those words 'I'm sorry' to me anymore. You have the right to enjoy it. My name's in the column as your partner, so where else will I run to? Besides, you're carrying our child right now. This links us in countless ways and cannot be severed. If you're still worried, then fight for Grandfather, Grandmother and our parents' liking on the daily. Make them your strongest backup. I'm even burning all my escape routes for you. How could you doubt my loyalty, Missus? When did you become so sensitive?"
His deep, sensitive yet gentle voice made her could not help but tear up again. She replied in a hoarse voice, "Why are you criticizing me? Ever since I met you, I've become too sensitive!"
"I haven't said anything. How did I criticize you?"
"You wouldn't dare! But to be honest, that Miyeon is really beautiful."
He smiled in amusement. "Okay, whether she's pretty or not is her problem. It's got nothing to do with us. Our daughter will be a thousand times prettier than her in the future. Of course, this applies to her mother too!"
"I never knew you were so good at making girls happy." Jennie laughed with her lips pursed.
"You're wrong. I don't know how to make girls happy. I only know how to do that with you, Missus. Your existence is unique and unmatched. Who else could have this honor?"
It was rare for Mr. Manoban to play along with her.
"When are you coming back? It's been so long! It's already more than a month now. The baby and I miss you very much."
