Chapter 30

Within a split second, the three of us shot to our feet. Sprinting to the front gate. I tried to wave off the deep feeling of fear and doubt; what if they didn't make it, what if it was only Jake who made it back? Madison beat us to the gate, her arms already wrapped around Alicia. Thank god.

"Oh my god. What happened?" I spoke between breaths. Their appearances were rugged, dirt covered their faces. Alicia's hair made a knotted halo around her head.

Alicia, and Jake stood before us as Luciana was laid on the ground. I crouched next to her, breathing out a sigh of relief once I found a pulse on her neck, "she's alive." I mumbled to Nick.

"The helicopter went down." Jake answered before embracing his younger brother.

"Wait." Madison looked around, scanning all of our faces. "Where's Travis?"

We all looked at Alicia. The lack of response told us all we needed to know. He didn't make it. The already unbearable weight on my chest continued to grow. We just needed a break, we all did. Loss after loss. Breaking our already broken spirits.

Madison was spiraling quickly. She fought back tears, "No, no, no." She repeated, over and over. Until fell to her knees, Alicia knelt down next to her fighting back her own tears.

"Luci, hey. It's Nick." He lightly lifted her head.

She was unresponsive. If she didn't get medical attention right away she'd go into septic shock, if she hasn't already. "We need a medic, a doctor, ANYONE!" I shouted.

"There's no point. She's not going to make it." Troy said. I wanted nothing more than to attack Troy. Maybe render his other eye useless as well. I glanced at Luciana, forcing myself to maintain my composure.

"What? Help her." Nick demanded.

"No. She might turn. It's a liability." He shrugged. He didn't have a care in the world. Someone was dying right in front of him and he didn't blink an eye. Gritting my teeth, I stood up.

"YOU caused this. Troy, you and your people did this to her. Don't-"

"I was defending my people." He interrupted me. "I'll do it again. I know what to do." He took the gun out of his holster.

"No. Troy, don't you fucking dare." I stood between him and Luci.

"There's no other option."

"You don't know that. I should've just shot you." I leaned closer to him. "If you-"

"Wait." Nick interrupted. He stood up next to me, lightly pushing me out of the way. "I'll do it. She's our friend, we deserve that right." WHAT?
