"I think you did good; just gotta stay on your marks."She sat in the red velvet lounge, watching playback of the live rendition of her newest single Love Is War and also listening to the constructive criticism of her sister to her right. She had been on set all morning into the night to perfect her craft. Her vocals were on point, as always, but with so much on her mind, she was missing marks every so often.
"Luckily it's not noticeable," the director pointed out.
"Think we got the shots?" Devon asked, focusing the playback as well. Once the director nodded, he called a wrap to the entire team and band.
In silence, Courtney head straight to her dressing room and immediately grab her phone from Lucy. She checked it to zero missed calls from the person she planned to see some from—Troy.
"He hasn't called Court," Lucy said, watching her check her phone.
"Who hasn't called?" Devon asked, walking in with the dressing room and holding the door open for Carter.
"Nobody." Courtney said barely above a whisper, grabbing her bag with change of clothes and to the bathroom.
"What she so moody for?" Devon asked and Lucy fanned it off.
Changing clothes swiftly, and came back out in a sweatsuit. "I'm ready to head home; lay with my baby."
"Aight, but you need to go over your tour schedule dates before it's final with DMG. Any dates you gotta scratch out and we need to replace, we can do that."
Courtney nodded, leaving with her sister and assistant. "Ashleigh tryna meet early tomorrow to talk about your stage setup," Carter spoke in the driver seat, "I think we should stick with that neutral colors—browns, tans, nudes."
"Sounds good," she said monotone.
Carter glanced over to her sister. "Okay, Court, get the fuck over it. He will call your ass." she rolled her eyes and switch topics, "You ever think about if you're gonna let Bam do the surgery the doctor suggested?"
"The cochlear implants?" Lucy asked from the backseat.
"Yeah," she sighed, scratching her head lightly. "I haven't really thought on it because I might not even do it."
"Not fair for you to even have to make that decision alone. Maybe you—"
"He's trying to take my son and you want me to reach out?" Courtney cut off Lucy, chuckling humorlessly.
"Well you not Valero's only parent."
"Can we just get home? I wanna take this damn wig off my head."
The rest of the drive was quiet. Courtney got home, expecting to find her father, stepmother, and her son but the place was ultra quiet.
"They must've left?" Carter said, as Courtney pulled out her phone and called her father.
