"I want to meet your girlfriend."

Driving his Hummer EV, he glanced over to her sitting in his passenger seat with her gaze locked in on him. She had on a light gray sweatshirt with a graphic on the front and jeans on the ride to her hometown with her son. Chuckling low, he placed his gaze back on the road.

"I never told you I gotta girlfriend," he pointed out.

"Well this did." Kimberly held her phone, showing the screen of Troy on the side of a stage with Courtney, holding her face as they held eye contact. It was from her performance a few days back. "She's pretty. A lot of people speculating if y'all are together. There's a lot of comments saying she has a baby with a married man; is that true?"

"Don't be a reporter, mama; notta good look." Troy spoke, releasing a light exhale. "But yes, she my girlfriend."

Kimberly nodded, locking her cellphone. "She can blow like a mutha fucka. How long have y'all been with each other?"

"Been talkin' for a long minute, but the official part; not long. It's still pretty fresh. I really like her, though."

"I can tell.." She said, watching her son's eyes sparkle speaking about his new relationship and that alone let Kimberly know the female she never met words hold weight with Troy and that was the issue with her. "Let me meet her?"

"Ma, we going down here cause you want to show me yo' stomping grounds. Not to meet my girlfriend. She stay out in LA, so I don't even know if she down here."

"So call her," Kimberly solved, shrugging softly. "Easy fix."

Entering Long Beach, he shook his head with a chuckle at the fact he was really considering introducing Courtney to his mother. She already knew his dad what would be the harm in meeting his other parent as well.

"Okay, fine," Troy gave in, "Ima call her once I stop by the house. I gotta grab something before you show me yo' side. My brothers not there around this time but Ima still rush in and out."

"What are Tyson and Gabe doing these days?"

"Tyson workin at a high school; been doin' that for a while and doin' his own schoolin' at the same time. He tryna be superintendent and allat. Gabe, he make custom sneakers wit Romeo. They doin' real good wit that. When I'm not booked on a mural I help em out to fulfill orders and allat. We all just keeping it busy."

"That's good to hear." Kimberly nodded, "You know they don't talk to me."

"I mean, Tyson not as forgiven as me. You left him, too. We was old enough to remember that. And Gabe, well, he don't know you. He never got to have that connection with you."
