Next morning, Downtown LA
"Come on in," Phae insisted the young singer and her manager.
Devon only sat, while Courtney couldn't bring herself to plant a seat in front of the publicist's glass desk. She paced back and forth slowly. "Alright.." she started, staring between the manager and her client. "As the both of you know the news is out. Tavon was just here; I'm sure you passed him on the way in."
"Who?" Was the main question Courtney had.
"We don't know." Phae released, getting the young sister to finally stare her way. "The only thing I do know is it's a in-house situation."
Courtney was visibly questionable and so was Devon too. His twisted face showed his confusion. "Hold up, you sayin' somebody at DMG put this info out there?" he asked, and Phae nodded slowly. "I thought everybody in there was under strict ass NDAs? I even signed one. We all did. So how this happen?"
"Because someone there clearly doesn't take non-disclosure agreements as serious paperwork; I'm going to find out and that person will deal with the repercussions. I can promise you that." Phae assured, "But right now, we have to focus on you and how we're going to spin this. The world knows you had an affair with a married man but the baby on top of that can be damaging. You're already looked at as a home wrecker."
"Don't you think I know that?" Courtney exhaled sharply, finally taking herself a seat. "But it's more to the story than me just meeting the Adonis Porter and sleeping with him."
"Then you need to spill that to me so that I can better protect you, Courtney. No more holding in the truth. You think the Porter's publicist isn't at their fat ass mansion figuring out a plan to spin this for their benefit? They have been in this business a very long time and know what to say and what it takes. You still fresh meat. Don't be the person to fall on that sword 'cause I promise they won't."
Courtney darted her eyes to her publicist and uncle, sighing. The only person that knew the truth behind her and Adonis relationship was Shantey. She never opened up to anyone else. Her family just knowing she had a baby with a married man was already too much. But Phae was right; she has to speak up.
"She knew..." she announced, sitting back in the seat.
"Who knew?" Devon asked.
"His wife; she knew." The news visibly shocked her uncle and publicist. "She encouraged it—gave her approval; you can say. Do you remember my red performance at Lou's?" she asked her uncle mainly since he was in attendance. Once he nodded, she continued. "That's when she approached me. I saw him once coming out that barbershop next door to Lou's and I don't know; maybe they went home and had a conversation and it led to that. He was fine, so why not? But I didn't trap him to gain something. He's not even around."
