RANVIJAY
I was stepping down the stairs, clutching and unclutching my fists as I felt a little nervous. Finally, I decided to confront dad. Kashish had insisted to mend fences with dad. It wasn't an easy decision. But I know. I had to do that.
"Saavi, I'll kill you today!" Vikram yelled, hitting her with a cushion.
"I'll complain to Ranvijay bhai!" Saavi dodged the cushion. Vikram, this little brat
"Enough. Both of you, have your breakfast." Mousi said angrily, though she didn't look furious. Mousi was sweeter than candy. "Vikram!" My sharp cold voice froze his hands in the air holding another cushion. Only then Kashish looked at me.
I pulled my chair and set next to dad but my eyes still pinned to Vikram who was avoiding my angry glares. "Y-Yes bhai" he stammered while Saavi silently settled next to me.
"Next time you hit her, and I'll throw you off the 10th floor." I growled. "But bhai, she started first." Vikram grumbled. "Liar! I didn't bhai." Saavi defended herself and another argument started between them. "Silence!!"
They flinched in unison. "Finish breakfast. Take your bags and go to your college. Now." I again did. Shouted on them. Kashish sighed at my rude behaviour. When my eyes finally landed back on the dining table, I found everyone looking at me with a strange stare.
"Where did the sun rise today? I mean, Ranvijay is actually sitting and eating with Bhai Sahab." Cobra Kaki hissed. Why can't she just shut her fucking mouth?
"Why? Can't a son and father have breakfast together?" Dad snapped back.
First-time dad's words bothered me more than Kaki's taunts. It had been years since we'd shared dine together. Dad and I had once been like strangers. I didn't have the courage to lift my eyes and look at him, but I could feel his stare on me.
I decided to eat quietly. Dad finished his breakfast and left. I sighed in relief. And I'm a PARA SF commando, like seriously.
"Ran..." A soft hand placed on my right shoulder. "I can't do that, Kashish," I said, wrapping my arms around her waist, burying my disappointed face. Thank God no one was here to see me like this—except for Kashish.
"You can," she sat beside me, holding my hands. "He won't forgive me. I... I did so many terrible things to him." She gently wiped away my tears.
I didn't know why I cried. Since when had I become such an emotional person? She framed my face with her hands and kissed my cheek. "You have to try," she said softly.
"Parents never stay angry with their kids for long. I know you've made mistakes, but this is your only chance to correct them. I've seen the way Dad looks at you—his eyes are desperate to love his son. Don't think about outcomes, Ranvijay. Just take a step."
I nodded. She was right. I should give our relation a chance. Kashish was the greatest support system in my fragile life. She was the light that illuminated my shattered world. She was younger than me, but she always guided me in life.
I stood outside dad's room, my hand hesitating mid-air before knocking. Come on, Ran. You can do it. Kashish's voice played in the back of my head. With a deep breath, I knocked on the door, the sound louder than I expected.
"Come in" As I stepped inside, my old memories flashed in front of my eyes, so vivid, I felt it was playing in real time. It felt like it was yesterday when I'd come back from school and run into my parents' room just to show Maa my clumsy doodles.
