RANVIJAY

"Jaan, spit out your anger." She didn't look back. "Sorry." I didn't expect her to get this mad.

Sure, I loved teasing her and then coaxing her, but this time, the tease was a little over the top. Kashish was not even ready to look at me.

"Kashish, wait!" I called out, quickening my pace to keep up with her. You're a goddamned idiot, Major.

It was your first romantic night after fucking six months and you pissed her off. She titled you correct. You're an asshole. "Raaje, watch it." I warned her when her foot about to skim on the muddy surface but she held her ground. Relief!

The ground was muddy due to the rain that had occurred a few hours earlier. "I can take care of myself!" She grunted, her heels sinking into the muddy ground. But she didn't stop. Not even a glance over her shoulder. Stubborn as always.

She shivered and wrapped her arms around her chest. It was damn cold, and her lehenga didn't look thick enough to protect her from the wind. An insane urge to draw her closer so I could share some of my body heat took over me.

The estate was too large and widely open—thick walls couldn't quite keep out enough cold air. "Kashish, come on. I was teasing you!" My voice softened. Her dupatta was cleaning the ground, so I picked it up. Such a good husband.

"You didn't tease me. you betrayed me in front of Aaji." She grumbled. "And I hate you for that." She threw her hands in the air, staring at me. Her cheeks flushed with cold winds. I walked toward her until I was one step away from her.

"I'd rather you love me than hate me, Jaan." She grimaced. "Then stop teasing me." A half-grin touched my lips. I leaned forward, matching her height. "That won't be possible." She was about to strangle me but stopped her hands midway.

"Don't talk to me." She turned and was about to walk before I grabbed her hand and yanked her to my chest.

"We shouldn't talk tonight either." Her shoulders shrugged when my fingers dug into her waist. "We have other stuff to do."

"Keep dreaming." she pulled away, took back steps, and suddenly stumbled. Kashish's leg twisted awkwardly, and before I could react, she fell forward with a splat, landing face-first in the mud.

"Kashish!!" I was late to warn her. She was lying in the muck with her hair splayed out and a look of frustration on her face. "Why always me, Deva?" she yelled.

I bit my lip, fighting the urge to laugh. Not because it was funny—okay, maybe a little—but mostly because I knew laughing would only make her angry. And I couldn't do that.

"Are you alright, Raaje?" She glared at me, and I could see the fire in her eyes. I was in for it now. "Do I look alright to you?" she snapped back. I was afraid of her more than my superiors.

I shook my head and reached out my hand, so I could pull her up and get her cleaned off. "Here, take my hand—"

She slapped my hand away. Her eyes intensified with anger and when she caught my grin. Damn. It slipped "I can get up myself, Major."

How could someone be so stubborn and adorable at the same time? She was trying to save face even as she was covered in mud. I couldn't help but laugh again, her little rebellion only making her more endearing.

"Okay," I conceded. "But you do realize that you look absolutely gorgeous in that muddy mess?" Kashish rolled her eyes, but couldn't suppress the smile spreading across her face. "Just get me out of here before I decide to start a mud fight with you."
