CINDYS POVWhen I got to Julia's door, it swung open before I even knocked. Dina stood there, grinning, a glass of something that looked like sangria in her hand. "You're just in time!" she said, pulling me inside.
Music was already blasting from the TV, some upbeat 'getting ready' playlist that Julia had curated. The room was warm, the scent of makeup and perfume filling the air. Laid out on Julia's bed were our costumes: sleek, dark, and dangerously sexy, along with the blonde wig I'd be wearing as part of our Dimitrescu sisters trio, Bela.
We started with the makeup, and Dina was already lining her lips with a dark berry colour, while Julia sat cross-legged, pulling out the supplies she'd need for our looks. "Dark lipstick, winged eyeliner, lashes" Julia said, already in her element. I grabbed my foundation and started with a base, but Julia was the real expert when it came to makeup.
"You're doing the forehead design for both me and Dina, right?" I asked, glancing at Julia.
"Of course! Trust me, you're gonna look hot," she said, grabbing her brushes.
Once we had our base makeup done; pale skin, dark lipstick, thick winged eyeliner, and long lashes that made our eyes pop. Julia focused on the finishing touch. She carefully painted the intricate forehead designs on both me and Dina, her hand steady as she worked. It took a while, but by the end, we looked good.
I tried to pull the wig cap on, but the damn thing wouldn't stay in place. My hair was slipping out of the sides, and I couldn't get it to sit right. Dina, noticing my struggle, came over with a knowing smile.
"Let me help," she said, gently taking the cap from my hands. She placed it on my head with ease, smoothing it down before grabbing the blonde wig. "Hold still." In a few seconds, she had the wig perfectly situated, adjusting it around my face. She stepped back to admire her work and smiled. "You look beautiful," she said, her voice soft but sincere.
I could tell she meant it. The warmth in her eyes, the way she looked at me... it wasn't just about the costume. I felt my cheeks flush a little, and I offered her a grateful smile. "Thanks, Dina."
A few hours passed by in a blur of final touches, With my blonde wig and yellow contacts, I was almost unrecognizable. I wasn't Cindy anymore.
We cracked open a few drinks, knowing full well that the club would overcharge for everything later. Julia poured us each a shot of vodka, and we raised our glasses, laughing at something Dina said about needing to be "sufficiently buzzed" before the chaos of the night began.
As we sipped on our drinks, Julia casually mentioned, "I'm hoping to see Jesse tonight." There was a mischievous glint in her eyes, and I knew exactly what she meant.
I smiled, but the mention of Jesse reminded me of Ellie. A part of me was hoping Ellie wouldn't be with him. The two of them had been inseparable lately, and the thought of running into her at the club brought a wave of uneasiness over me. I hadn't heard anything about her plans, but knowing how things had been between us lately, I wouldn't be surprised if she was out with him.
