He was relentless.
It was like Jesse knew I was trying to avoid him so he was purposely trying to make it hard to do so. Everywhere I went, he somehow managed to show up there.
When I went to shower, he was in line behind me. When I took a walk, he was outside my cabin smoking. If I went to the nurse, he was at the nurse. It was so frustrating!
Right now I was in the girls' locker room changing into the camp's black swimsuit. Today our group activity was canoeing so we're going to be out in the water all day. Sadly, that also meant that it was going to be even harder to avoid Jesse since he's in the green group with me.
Once I finished changing I went outside and stood next to Tara as our group leader was giving out the canoe assignments.
"You better be my partner." Tara whispered to me.
"I hope I get you too. I should get you too; we chose each other when Logan passed out the partner request forms." I replied back.
"Yeah, but from what I hear, I'm not the only one who requested you."
My eyes followed where Tara was pointing and I groaned when I saw Jesse staring at me from behind. I stared back, daring him to break away first, but when he didn't I averted my eyes.
"What is with that guy? He won't leave me alone." I sighed.
"I don't know but I would watch out if I was you. Jesse Pierce isn't the type of guy you want hanging around you. I know I'm not a good person, but at least I'm not on his level." Tara told me.
I nodded and focused my attention back on Logan when he cleared his throat.
"Ok so today we're going to go canoeing in the lake. You will be split up in groups of two for this activity while I follow you in my own canoe. The teams will be Tara Phillus and Mason Riley in canoe 4 and Sydney Greene and Jesse Peirce in canoe 6."
I looked at Jesse and when I saw him smirking at me, I rolled my eyes.
"This is just my luck." I hissed under my breath as I walked towards canoe six.
"Hey, wait up partner." Jesse called from behind me.
I ignored him and kept walking to the canoe. Once I reached it. I pushed it into the water and got into the seat in the front. Jesse got in as I was putting on my life jacket and picking up my oar.
"Have you ever canoed before?" Jesse asked me once we got into the water.
I pretended not to hear him and kept rowing.
"I guess you're still not talking to me." He concluded.
I looked out over the water and was startled to find that we were slowly veering away from the group. I checked my position and found that I was perfectly in line...it was Jesse that was pushing us away.
"What are you doing!" I snapped.
"Oh, so now you want to talk to me?" He taunted.
"Stop acting like a kid and get back in line." I yelled at him.
"Nope. We're going to talk first." He demanded.
He started rowing faster towards a patch of trees on the other side of the lake, far from where our group was. I could barely even see them anymore.
"Cut it out Jesse!" I said.
"Ooh, say my name again. The way you say it sounds sexy when you're mad."
I rolled my eyes and folded my hands across my lap, stopping my oar. It was useless to try and row back to the others. Without Jesse going the same way as I wanted, it would get me nowhere.
Finally, we reached the trees and Jesse hopped out. He pulled the canoe up to the shore and offered me a hand as I got out.
I ignored him and got out by myself.
"Fine. Now that we're here and alone...what do you want to talk about?
Jesse smiled at me. "Follow me." He said before he disappeared into the trees.
