"Get up girls, today we're getting our weekly assignments! Every week all the campers gather in the theatre and receive assignments that they work on in a group for that week." Alyssa explained.

"I expect you all to be ready in 10 minutes."

With that she left the cabin, allowing us some privacy.

I sighed and threw on the first clothes I saw. Once I was dressed in a pair of jean shorts and a plain t-shirt I combed through my hair and put it in a ponytail. After I brushed my teeth Alyssa came back in.

"Let's go guys!" She said as she herded the others girls out of the room. Before I could join them she grabbed my arm and pulled me back in.

"Today I was planning on telling you that I forgave you for being so rude to me yesterday. I realized that this camp is for kids with problems so I was going to cut you a break." Alyssa started.

"Look I-"

"And then I saw you talking to Jesse Peirce. Also known as, Jesse Peirce my boyfriend." Alyssa cut me off. I was surprised to see that her normally kind eyes had hardened.

"Listen, I don't know what you saw but- wait a second. Aren't you a counselor here?" I asked.

"Yeah, so."

"So you're like in your twenties, last time I checked this was a camp for kids aged 13-19. Isn't it illegal for you to be dating one?" I concluded.

Alyssa rolled her eyes. "Not that its any of your business but Jesse is nineteen. We can do whatever we want to. All I'm asking is for you to stay away from my boyfriend. We've been dating since he started coming here five years ago. I'll be damned if I let some little girl try to take my man."

Now it was my turn to roll my eyes. "I don't know Jesse, nor do I want him. And I'd watch the way you talked to me if I was you." I threatened and backed Alyssa up to a wall. "I don't take kindly to bitches."

Without another word to the shocked blonde I pushed her out of my way and left the cabin.

I made it to the theatre just as the assignments were being given out. I scanned the room for an empty seat and found one next to an alternative looking red-head with tattoos all over her arms.

"Hey." I said as I slid into the seat next to her.

"Hey. You're the new girl aren't you?" She asked. When I nodded she continued talking. "You kind of stand out since most of us have been coming here since we turned 13. I'm 17, how old are you?"

"Sixteen." I answered.

"Cool..." She trailed off. "What did you do to get sent here?"

"The typical." I shrugged. "Drinking, doing drugs, mouthing off to my parents."

The girl snorted. "That's it. When I was 12 I stole a car to drive to Mexico to avoid going to juvie."

"Wow, you're a regular badass." I replied.

The girl laughed. "I like you. My name's Tara, what's yours?"

"Sydney."

At that point we turned back in to the assembly.

"Carly Hayes, Martin Bedden, Charles Font, Sarah Walker, you are the yellow group. Your activity will be arts and crafts in the cafeteria." Spoke the woman handing out the assignments.

"Arts and crafts? What are we, five!" I chuckled.

"You have no idea." Tara exclaimed.

"Hayley Steward, Alex Crosse, Catherine Lowes, Harvey Marks, you are the red group. Your activity will be creative writing."

The people in that group groaned as they went off with their group leader.

Glad that's not me

"Tara Phillus, Mason Riley, Sydney Greene-"

"Yes we're in the same group!" I cheered.

"And Jesse Peirce. You are the green group and your activity this week will be aquatic sports."

And suddenly I'm not so happy anymore.
