"Give it back to me!"
"Why don't you make me Barbie?"
I was awakened by Courtney and Elease arguing. I sat up in my bed and saw Courtney (who was like a foot taller than Elease) holding a plastic bag with some kind of soupy-mushy thing inside of it, over her head. When I saw Elease reaching for a knife that I didn't notice was on her dresser, I jumped out of bed.
"Hey, girls calm down. Elease give me the knife right now." I ordered, coming to stand in front of the two girls.
"Not until she gives me my bag back." Elease complained.
"What's in there?" I asked.
Courtney scoffed. "Her disgusting food from last night. I saw her spitting it into a bag and then last night I saw her put it under her bed. I didn't want it to smell like shit in here so I'm trying to throw it out. "
"Is this true?" I asked Elease.
"No, I just lied to you for no goddamn re-"
"Be quiet Courtney." I cut her off. I turned back to Elease. "Well?"
Elease put the knife back on the dresser, crossed her arms across her chest and glared at me.
"So what if it is?"
"Didn't I ask you last night to come to me if you felt the urge to chew and spit again?" I reminded her.
"Yeah."
I sighed. "So then why didn't you tell me?"
"I don't even know you. Why would I tell you how I'm feeling?" Elease countered.
"Because I'm your counselor and it's my job to help you through your problems." I said.
"I don't have a problem."
Courtney busted out laughing. "Yeah because spitting out your food after you chew it is completely normal. Face it Barbie, you're a freak."
Elease made a move to hit Courtney and I jumped in the way. Elease dropped her hand and leveled me with a stare so cold it reminded me of how Alyssa used to look at me.
"I don't care what any of you losers think about me. I don't even want to be here! God, I hate you all!" She screamed before storming out of the cabin.
"Nice one." I muttered and snatched the bag out of Courtney's hand. After I threw it, and the knife, away I woke up the other girls who had managed to stay asleep through the whole fight. Once we were all dressed I gathered all of the girls and took them to the mess hall. Apparently there was some announcement that Alyssa planned to make today.
I found Elease sitting at our table when we walked in.
"Are you ok?" I asked her as we took our seats. Courtney made sure to sit at the other end of the table with the others, while I took a seat next to Elease.
"I'm fine." She snapped.
I bristled at her harsh tone but said nothing and instead turned my attention to my food. When I felt eyes on me I looked up and saw Jesse walking my way. He was dressed in a plain white t-shirt and black jeans. His hair was actually styled this time, up and away from his face.
Seeing Jesse reminded me of Ethan. I scanned the room and found him sitting on the other side of the room, next to Alyssa. I narrowed my eyes at how close they were sitting. I mean she was practically on his lap.
What's up with that, I thought to myself.
"Hey Syd." Jesse said as he took a seat at my table. His campers also sat down with us.
Before I could respond to Jesse, Madison spoke up.
"Well hello sexy, what's your name?" She asked.
I gasped at how forward she was. Was this how she seduced her teacher, cause she sure was putting on a show. She stood from her seat and sauntered over to me and Jesse, biting her lip and switching her hips the whole way.
"Uh, no." Jesse responded, an impasse look on his face.
Madison frowned. "What?"
Jesse smirked. "I'm not interested in you whatsoever. Besides, aren't you a little young to be hitting on me? What are you like 12?"
See, it wasn't just me, the girl looked ridiculously young! Her teacher must have been a pedophile.
"I'm 16, asshole." Madison hissed before returning to her seat. When she got there she picked up her fork and started to bend it on the table, glaring at Jesse the whole time.
Note to self: Madison also had anger issues on top of a sex problem.
"Your campers are lovely." Jesse deadpanned.
I laughed. "Dude, you have no idea."
"May I have your attention please." Alyssa's voice rang throughout the mess hall. We all turned in our seats to face the front where Alyssa was standing behind a podium.
"Ok so you are all probably wondering why I'm interrupting your breakfast, am I right?" Alyssa chuckled nervously, obviously trying to appear friendly.
She was met with silence.
"Well anyways I want to be the first to tell you about the first ever Camp Pinewood games!"
Suddenly the mess hall erupted with excited whispers.
"For the next two weeks all of the cabins will be competing against each other to see which one is the strongest mentally and physically. To be fair, the female cabins will be matched up with the male ones. The winning cabins will win the Camp Pinewood Cup and will get special privileges for the rest of the summer."
It got even louder in the room.
"Cabins 1& 2 will be the red team, cabins 3 & 4 will be the blue team, cabins 5 & 6 will be the yellow team, cabins 7 & 8 will be the green team,"
Jesse and I made eye contact and smiled.
"Cabins 9 & 10 will be the orange team, and cabins 11 and 12 will be the purple team." Alyssa finished. "Today you will meet with your team members and tomorrow we will start with the first competition. Let the games begin." Alyssa looked at me as she said the last line and smiled creepily.
She was definitely up to something, and I had a feeling that I didn't want to know what she has planned.
