The next morning I woke up with something lying on my chest. I sat up in my bunk and found a simple note on a white lined paper.
Get up,
Get dressed,
Meet me by the mess...
Hall

I smiled and shuffled out of bed. When I walked into the bathroom I was surprised to see that all of my campers were up and getting dressed.
"You guys are up early." I acknowledged.
"Well yeah, we wanted to strategize for the game today." Courtney told me.
Shoot I completely forgot. What did Jesse have planned with that note on my bed?
"That's good. I would love to join you but Jesse wants to see me. He left a note on my bed telling me to meet him at the mess hall." I said.
"Really?" Madison raised an eyebrow. "Let me see it."
I handed it to her.
When she read it she scoffed.
"You do realize that this is a date, right?" She asked.
"What?" I shook my head. "No, he probably just wants to run over our game plan for today. Besides we don't really do dates."
"But aren't you boyfriend and girlfriend?" Elease asked.
"Yeah...so." I trailed off.
"Y'all are so weird." She sighed.
"Trust me Sydney, this is a date. My last boyfriend tried something like this." Madison told me.
"Wasn't he your teacher?" I questioned.
Madison shrugged. "So? Romance is romance, and Jesse definitely has something romantic planned for you. You should totally let us help you get ready."
I shook my head. "Not necessary since I'm not going on a date."
"Oh come on Sydney." Madison begged.
"Please." Elease added.
"Pretty please?" Sabrina said.
"With a cherry on top?" Courtney finished with a roll of her eyes.
I raised my hands in surrender. "Fine if you guys want to help then I'm not going to stop you. But don't be disappointed when you get me all dressed up for nothing."
...
An hour later I was dressed in a floral print sundress with gladiator sandals on my feet (clothes provided by Elease). My hair was curled in loose waves and hung down my back and my makeup was flawless.
Once I was dressed I made my way to the Mess hall. When I saw Jesse standing outside the doors in a pair of dress pants and a pressed shirt, I became suspicious.
"What is going on?" I asked him.
"You look fantastic Syd." Jesse said, ignoring my question.
"What is going on?" I repeated, this time slower.
Jesse smiled and rolled his eyes. "Always so impatient."
"Seriously Jesse, what are we doing here? We have a game, that's happening in 3 hours, to prepare for." I reminded him.
"And we'll do that, but I have something to show you first."
Jesse strode forward and pushed the doors to the Mess hall open. I gasped when I looked inside and saw the cozy setting inside.
All of the cafeteria tables were pushed to the side, save for one that was in the center of the room. It had a red tablecloth on it and the normal Mess hall plastic knives and forks were swapped out for real cutlery. There were candles scattered all around the room, creating a romantic vibe.
"You did all of this?" I asked as I took a seat at the table.
"Yeah, with a little help from your campers." Jesse acknowledged.
"You guys set me up!" I concluded.
Jesse smirked. "You made it too easy."
Suddenly one of Jesse's campers came forward. "Hello my name is Evan and I will be your server this morning."
He handed us each a piece of paper that the "menu" was printed on.
"Have you decided what you would like to eat?" Evan asked.
"I guess I'll have the pancakes and bacon." I laughed.
That was the only item on the menu.
"A wonderful choice mamn," Evan turned to Jesse, "And for you sir?"
"I'll have the same." Jesse ordered.
"Fantastic. I will be back with your meals shortly. In the meantime, can I pour you some orange juice?" He asked as he raised the pitcher in the air.
Jesse and I nodded our heads. When Evan finished and went into the kitchen I looked at Jesse.
"Fancy place you picked." I joked.
Jesse grinned. "Pancakes are the only thing breakfast thing that Brandon knows how to make."
"Ron and John can't cook?" I asked.
Jesse's face blanched. "They made me a sandwich the other day and after eating that I'm surprised I'm still alive. I should have been suspicious of the fact that they made it in the bathroom."
I laughed so hard that I snorted.
"I've never taken you out on a date." Jesse said when I had calmed down.
"I know. I don't blame you since we've only been together at Camp Pinewood." I exclaimed and rested my hand on his. Jesse enveloped my hand in his.
"Still, I'm really serious about you Sydney and you deserve the best. I know this isn't enough, but I hope to spend the rest of my life showing you how much you're worth to me."
I looked down and blushed when I saw the serious look on his face.
"I am irrevocably and unconditionally in love with you Sydney Suzette Green."
I furrowed my eyebrows. "How did you find out my embarrassing middle name?"
"I broke into the office and looked at your file." Jesse shrugged.
I tilted my head to the side. "Only you would do that and only I would find that romantic."
"What can we say, we're unique."
Evan came out of the kitchen then, carrying a tray full of food.
"Breakfast is served." He said and handed Jesse and me our plates.
When he was gone I raised my fork in my hand.
"Before you eat that, you should know that I haven't tried it yet so I'm not sure if it's edible." Jesse admitted.
Again I found myself laughing.
"But I'll be the man and give it the taste test first."
Jesse slowly cut off a piece of his pancake and put it his mouth. He chewed it thoughtfully before swallowing it.
"Well mine is good." He concluded.
"Then that's good enough for me." I started to eat my food.
While I was eating I noticed that Jesse kept staring at me.
"What?" I asked.
"I love you." He told me.
"You said that already." I pointed out.
"And I'll say it a million times just as long as you never leave me again." He replied.
"I won't, cause for some unknown reason, I'm in love with you too." I responded.
And for the next hour Jesse and I finished our food and spent the rest of the time before the camp event cuddled in the corner of the Mess hall showing each other just how in love we were.
...in a completely PG way of course....
