"So Alyssa really is a psychopath?" Jesse exclaimed from his place on my bed. "I knew it!"
I stopped my pacing long enough to roll my eyes at him. "No Jesse, Geodon is a bi- polar medicine. The type of drug is called antipsychotic."
"Oh." Jesse looked disappointed. "So that means that she like gets crazy mood swings."
I nodded. "What should I do? If I give it back to her then she might flip out on me and accuse me of stealing them. I don't want to ruin our new friendship."
"Well you definitely can't keep them. There's a reason why Alyssa needs medication." Jesse thought for a second. "Why don't you sneak into her cabin and put it on her dresser or something?"
I sighed. "Because it's pretty suspicious if Alyssa leaves her cabin and comes back to find her pills suddenly waiting for her. The lady who
dropped them in the first place was probably a relative, by now she's probably told Alyssa that she lost her prescription." I explained.
"It's either that or you give them back to Alyssa yourself. Sneaking into her cabin seems like the lesser of two evils." Jesse admitted.
And that's how I found myself wearing all black and hiding in the bushs right by Alyssa's cabin. I was waiting for the blonde to leave so that I could return her pills to her.
It took about an hour, but Alyssa finally stepped out of her cabin. She was wearing a bikini top and shorts so I figured that she must be going to the pool. That would give me at least half an hour to get in and out without her seeing me.
I waited until she left my line of vision before leaving my hiding place. I slowly crept up the stairs leading to her cabin and pushed the door open. Thankfully, none of her campers were inside so my job was way easier than I thought it would be.
I walked into the scarily neat cabin and carefully closed the door behind me. I looked around, trying to figure out which dresser was Alyssa's. None of them had any family pictures on it so I had no idea where I should leave the pills.
My heart rate started to pick up when I realized that I was wasting precious time. Anyone could just walk into the cabin and see me snooping around. I had a feeling that it would really put a strain on my friendship with Alyssa if she caught me in her cabin alone.
I decided that my best bet would be to just leave the pills on the counter of the bathroom sink. I did just that and was making my retreat when I heard the door to the cabin jingle. Thinking quickly, I dove underneath the closest bed to me. I flinched as the bed post dug into my back but I kept my mouth shut, making sure not to make a sound and alert whoever it was that I was inside.
"I can't believe the idiots haven't even realized yet." I heard a girl say as she passed the bed that I was hiding under.
"I know right? You would think that people would notice that they're missing their sneakers by now." Another girl giggled.
"Alyssa said that the final event of the games was definitely going to be a scavenger hunt right?" The other girl asked.
My eyes narrowed as I realized that Alyssa lied about not knowing what the events were going to be ahead of the time they were announced. So her team had an unfair advantage the whole time!
"Yeah, that's why taking the green teams' sneakers was such a good idea. The scavenger hunt is going to be a race against time. The green team will have a hard time moving fast if they don't have the proper footwear."
Both girls laughed at this.
I felt my blood boil as I heard them say that they sabotaged my team. It's crazy that I actually thought that Alyssa had changed. She was willing to do anything to make sure that she didn't lose to me.
For the next few minutes had to lie uncomfortably on the cabin's wood floor and listen to the two campers talk. Fortunately the mess hall bell rang, signaling that dinner was ready. I waited until I heard the door slam before I got out from under the bed.
Before going to the mess hall I went back to my cabin and checked the closet. Sure enough, all of my girls' sneakers were gone along with mine.
I marched towards the mess hall, ready to tell off Alyssa but I changed my mind about halfway there. The best revenge against Alyssa would be for my team to win the games. If I let her know that I knew about her sabotage then I wouldn't have any leverage on her.
That's why when I walked into the cafeteria; I headed straight for my table, walking past Alyssa's in my haste.
"What's wrong with you?" Jesse wondered after seeing the furious look on my face as I approached our table.
When I sat down he whispered "Did you get caught in Alyssa's cabin?"
I shook my head no and addressed our campers. "So guys, I have some good and bad news."
"Bad news first." Brandon replied right away.
"Ok...so I just learned that someone snuck into our cabin and stole all of our sneakers." I decided to get right to the point.
"What!"
"Who?"
"Why?"
"I just bought $200 Nikes!" Sabrina shouted.
"Lower your voice." I hissed.
I did not need for Alyssa's team to hear Sabrina and realize that we knew what they did.
"Do you guys want to hear the good news now?" I asked.
"Might as well." Evan muttered.
"I know what the final event of the Camp Pinewood games is going to be." I told them.
"What! How?" Courtney wondered.
"That part's not important..." I trailed off. "The only thing that matters is that we have an edge on the competition."
"So we can get back at the assholes who stole our shoes." Jesse acknowledged. "Let me guess, it was Alyssa's team who took them?"
I nodded my head and rolled my eyes.
"We are not going to let them get away with this." Madison snapped and stood up."
"Sit back down. "I told her. "The best way to get back at them is by winning."
Elease raised her hand.
"Yes?" I furrowed my eyebrows at her strange use of grade school etiquette.
"If I tell my parents what happened, I'm sure they can replace our sneakers by tomorrow." Elease offered.
I forgot her parents were ridiculously wealthy.
"That would be amazing." I smiled at her. "Guys make sure that you give Elease your shoe sizes before you finish dinner."
While everyone turned their attention to Elease, I looked at Jesse.
"We are gonna crush them." He growled.
I smirked and looked at Alyssa. She caught my gaze and sent me a little wave. I waved back, making sure that I had a fake smile on my face.
Oh, it was on.
