"Hey Syd." Ethan said, meeting me as I was walking out the door with my team. Ethan paused when he saw Jesse walking next to me and immediately tensed up.
"Peirce." He hissed under his breath.
"Ethan." Jesse responded, smiling calmly.
Well that's a surprise.
"What are you doing here?" Ethan asked.
"I have to work here as part of my parole agreement." He told him.
Ethan snorted. "Well, you know that kind of thing happens when you commit a crime."
Jesse's eyes narrowed. "Whatever, I'll see you later Syd."
Jesse walked forward, taking our campers with him and giving Ethan and me privacy.
"Real mature." I snapped at Ethan.
"What, are you mad at me about something?" He asked, clearly bewildered.
"What do you think?" I sighed. "Why we you talking to Alyssa."
Ethan smirked. "Why, are you jealous?"
"Why are you being such a dick?" I wondered.
"Maybe it has something to do with the fact that you're being a jealous, clingy girlfriend. I can talk to whoever I want to Sydney."
I looked down. "I didn't mean to be clingy. I just don't trust Alyssa."
"But you do trust me right? So trust that I would never get with her if it would hurt you."
I frowned. "But you would get with her if it didn't hurt me?"
Ethan rolled his eyes. "I didn't say that, stop putting words in my mouth."
I gave Ethan a hard look and saw that frustration on his face. Was I being unreasonable?
"You know what, I have to be with my team. I'll see you later." I muttered.
Before I could get far, Ethan reached out a hand and pulled me back.
"Stay away from Jesse, ok. I get that you guys are on the same team but I don't need to be constantly worried that you're going to cheat on me." He spat.
"I'm not the one flirting with the enemy."
"Flirting with the enemy? Get over yourself Syd." Ethan demanded.
I laughed dryly and tugged my arm out of his grasp and kept walking, completely ignoring Ethan's calls from behind me.
When I got to where my team was, I was shocked to see utter chaos around me. Courtney and Elease were at it again, this time with Elease sitting on top of Courtney, repeatedly punching her in the face. Jesse was furiously trying to break them up but he had another fight between Ron, John, Evan, and Stephanie to deal with. I also noticed Madison and Brandon making out near the lake, completely oblivious to what was going on around them.
"Hey!" I shouted loudly.
When nobody bothered to pay me any attention I stuck two fingers in my mouth and blew hard. Everyone froze when they heard the loud sound and turned to me.
"Alright, all of you need to stop whatever the hell you think you're doing and listen to me right now. I'm not in the mood to deal with this bullshit." I snapped.
"You two," I pointed at Courtney and Elease, "separate right now and I better not catch you fighting ever again or else I will personally beat the crap out of you."
The girls huffed and puffed but got off of each other and moved away.
"You four," I pointed at the three boys and Sabrina, "I don't know why you're fighting and I don't care. Boys, sit with Jesse in between you and Stephanie come sit next to me."
After they had done what I said, I turned to Madison and Brandon. "Just don't let me actually see you having sex, ok?"
I knew that nothing I would say would convince these two not to hook up.
Madison grinned, surprised that I wasn't mad and promptly started to make out with Brandon again.
"Uh huh, hold up." They broke apart and I stood in the middle of my dysfunctional team. I called Jesse up and he stood beside me. "We're a team guys, and with the diversity of people in this group, we might actually have a chance at winning the Camp Pinewood Games. But we won't even come close if you keep fighting."
"Yeah," Jesse added, cutting in, "I don't know about you, but having privileges sounds pretty damn good. I know you don't like each other but you need to suck it up so that we can win."
"Now I want us to go around in a circle and say one thing that you think you're good at." I told them.
Stephanie, since she was standing next to me, started. "I'm actually fairly decent at puzzles."
Courtney was next. "I'm good with fire."
I grimaced. "I don't know if that will actually be helpful but nice, next?"
John and Ron spoke at the same time. "We're fast."
It was Elease's turn next. "I can like, make green team shirts."
Jesse snickered and I elbowed him in the stomach, not wanting Elease to feel discouraged.
"I know a lot of trivia and facts." Evan volunteered.
"Ooh, so do I!" Madison screeched.
I pointed at Brandon. "And you?"
"I've been told that I do wonders with my tongue." He added, a lopsided smile on his face.
"Really dude." Jesse snapped. "Be serious or I'm breaking your phone."
Brandon sobered up. "Fine, I played a bunch of sports growing up so I'm pretty strong and athletic."
I nodded my head. "You see, we're all good at something that can help us in the games. Now go change into your swimsuits in the locker room and we'll discuss the games after your group activity."
Once our campers had headed out, Jesse turned to me.
"You were amazing just now Sydney."
I popped my invisible collar. "I know, I've got that magic personality that people gravitate towards."
"Yeah, you do." Jesse whispered.
I was looking at the lake but upon hearing Jesse's tone I looked up and found him staring at me. There was a look of longing on his face and I watched closely as his tongue darted out of his mouth and ran over his pink lips. His eyes witched from my eyes to my lips and he came closer. When he started to lean in I widened my eyes, anticipating his kiss.
Just as I smelled his scent invading my nostrils from his proximity, we were broken apart from a voice behind us.
"Do I have to remind you guys that we have a strict no hooking up policy between counselors?"
