I woke up about two days later in the infirmary. There were flowers all around my bed, and someone's head was resting on my stomach. I looked down to see Jesse, fast asleep. I nudged him a little and he jumped up, looking around until his eyes met mine.
"You're awake." He said, hugging me.
"What happened to Alyssa?" I asked the most pressing question running through my mind.
"She's in the infirmary, in another room. You did a number on her. But she's going to be put on trial soon. I told them everything. They found Ethan's body."
"He's dead?" I asked, remembering what happened before I attacked Alyssa.
"Yeah. His funeral is next weekend. We can go if you want."
"Yes please..." I said, trying to wrap my head around all of this. "Am I in trouble? Am I going to be arrested?"
"Well they want to hear your side of the story. But after what I told them about Alyssa, they felt pretty bad for you."
I wasn't sure what to say, so I didn't say anything. He sat back down in the chair beside my bed and took my hand. "Hey, it's all over now. We won't have to deal with her anymore." he said, kissing the back of my hand.
I finally told the cops what happened that night. I told them everything I knew about Alyssa's medication and how she tried to kill me. I told her how Ethan saved me, but she pushed him off the edge. They didn't ask many questions. Apparently there was some evidence they'd found that also proved the story I gave them. So after I finished, all they asked was that I testified against her. I agreed to.
I was released later that day and surprised with hugs from our cabin kids. They still had a week left before they went home and we continued some of that camp activities we'd been doing before. Once they left, so did us counselors. Jesse and I left together of course.
I made him promise we wouldn't come back. He didn't have any objections there.
Once the trial was over, Alyssa was found guilty and sentenced to twenty five years. We went to Ethan's funeral and then started our own life together, putting all the crap Camp Pinewood caused in our past.
