Lainey's pov
As crazy as it sounds, I sit in the bed of Indies truck on the bank of the creek behind our house. The soft breeze blew my hair towards Indie. The tiny waves of the creek crashed softly as the leaves fell on us. "This is nice" he mumbled, laying his head on a Camo coat. "Yeah, until my dad finds us" I mumble back.
"Your on edge again" he teased. We still weren't dating, but we definitely weren't just friends, the way he looked at me, and held my hand, it wasn't something that friends did.
I jumped at the noise of a truck engine. "What?" Indie questions. "Thought I heard my dads truck" I reply.
"You've got to calm down" he explains."I can't, we are out here alone without permission and it scares me" I say. "First of all, we have permission, your dad said so, and second, your supposed to be relaxed" he explains.
I sighed and laid down on the hard truck bed hoping to find some peace. Indie played with the ends of my hair and slid his arm under my neck.
My eyes wandered up at the tree limbs above me as he brushed his fingers through my hair.
"You should decide if we're together or not" He mentions.I sighed and sat up. "I want us to date, but I don't know how we'd hide it" I explain. "We don't have too" he replies.
His arm reached towards me and I grabbed it."Indie, just give me a couple more days" I request. "We're basically together Lainey, all we need is the official words" he explains.
"Y'know what? Screw it, screw what other people think of us, I love you and I'm not gonna stop because of someone else" I vent. "That's it, I knew you'd come around" he teases.
I walked into the house and dad was sitting at the table. "How'd fishing go?" He asks. "We didn't catch anything, so not great" I reply.
"Hm, usually there's fish down there, what bait did y'all use?" He asks. "Just worms" I reply, I walk to my room and immediately text Paige.
"Me and Indie are official, just don't tell anyone yet"
"Oh my gosh! I'm so happy for y'all!"
"Thanks, I'll cya later"
"Okay! Cya!"
I stared at the time on my clock and hope to hear my mama call my name for supper. "Lainey! Suppers ready!" Mama called I ran down and sat at the table."Indie dropped by, said you left this in his truck" Dad said, handing me my jacket. "Oh I didn't even miss it" I reply. I take the jacket to my room while my mom dishes up the food.
As I picked up the jacket a note fell from the pocket it read. "Rubbed this all over my stuff, heard y'all liked that, love you" I chuckled at the note and sniffed the jacket out of curiosity.
"He wasn't kidding" I laugh to myself. I walk back downstairs and sat at the table. I hadn't said much other than talking with Connor about his baseball game.
"Lainey, Morgan wants to bring you with em to Kansas city for a show since you had a time last show, what should I tell him?" Dad asks.
"Of course! You tell him I'll be there" I reply. I immediately thought of being with Indie and smiled at the thought.
Indies pov
As I sit on the plane to Kansas I can't help but stare at Lainey sitting in the row over. The random strangers next to me stared at my expression as I turned my attention back to my phone screen.Once we landed I tried to move around the people in my path. I walked off the plane and searched for everyone.
I spotted mom and walked to her. "You found Dad?" I ask."Him, Ellie, and Lainey are still getting off" she explains. I adjusted my hat and held the handle of my suitcase as I waited. As they came off the plane Dad instructed me to go and get food for Ellie and Lainey to witch I agreed.
Once we got our food we sat at a table and waited for Mom and Dad. "What's with y'all?" Ellie questioned noticing me playing with Lainey's hand.
Lainey looked at me and gave me a look. "I'm gonna tell her" I say, Lainey looked down at her food.
"What? Tell me what? What's going on?" Ellie asks frantically."Me and Lainey, are.." I start, Lainey looked up. "We're dating" she finished. Ellie's eyes grew wide.
"Wait really? Do mom and dad know?" She asks."Not yet, but I think there catching on" I explain. "So your not upset?" Lainey asks. "Hell no! My bestie will be with me forever!" Ellie exclaims.
We laughed until Dad and Mom came and sat with us. "What's so funny?" Dad asks. I knew Ellie would say something completely believable because she was always good at that.
"We were talking about the time you fell on stage over all that smoke" Ellie said. "That wasn't funny, my knees still hurt from that" Dad explained.
"Maybe that's because your old" Ellie joked. "That too I guess" Dad says.
Upon arriving at Arrowhead stadium we found our family section and got in the front. "Cool we're upfront" Ellie explains.
Ellie always soaked up the fame and people wanting a picture with her but I always kept it lowkey unless they asked.
Ellie stood by the stage as we watched Uncle Bailey do a set. Ellie reached for a high five witch he obviously gave her seeing as she's his niece.
Lainey stood next to me the whole time and progressively got more touchy as the night went on. At one point we were slow dancing to cover me up, out of sight of my dad of course.
While dad was signing autographs Ellie ran up and joked with him. "Morgan wallen! I'm your biggest fan! Please sign my T-Shirt!" She shouted.
Dad laughed and turned her down to witch she frowned. "He rejected me" she said with a sad expression.
We went backstage with him and Ellie crossed her arms."You rejected me" she mumbled. "You can get my autograph any day of your life Ellie, these people don't see me everyday" Dad explains.
"They are lucky people then" she joked. Dad laughed as we walked out. A crowd formed around me and Lainey as we walked out, we didn't realize we were holding hands when the paparazzi took a picture.
As we hopped in the car I panicked. "Shit, they saw us..." I blurt. "Everyone in the damn world will know now" Lainey huffed.
