The way Tantalus saw it, the Stymphalian birds had simply been minding their own business in the woods and would not have attacked if Annabeth, Tyson, and Percy hadn't disturbed them with their bad chariot driving.

This was so completely unfair, so Amaya made fun of him for not being able to eat anything, while actively eating some black olives to prove her point.

She later puked it all up.

He sentenced her and the rest of the group to kitchen patrol-scrubbing pots and platters all afternoon in the underground kitchen with the cleaning harpies. Hope apparently had to get punished with Amaya because she was guilty by proximity.

Once Amaya was done puking, Percy gave her some of his water, and she drank it, trying to get the nasty taste of olives and bile out of her mouth.

"You, okay?" Percy asked for the millionth time.

Amaya nodded, feeling a little better after the water. "I hate olives," she mumbled.

Percy chuckled and ruffled her hair. "Yeah, I could tell."

"Hey," Amaya complained, trying to fix her hair, but it didn't do much good. It still stuck out in every direction.

Percy chuckled again. "You look like a porcupine."

Amaya tried to glare at him, but it was hard to look intimidating with messy hair, so she just settled for mumbling a curse under breath in her native language.

Percy just raised an eyebrow, not understanding the language, "What did you just say?"

"Trust me, you don't want to know." Amaya said, still trying to flatten her hair.

"Maybe I do." Percy teased, reaching out to ruffle her hair again, just to mess it up even more.

"Don't you dare-" Amaya tried swatting his hand away, but she was too late, and her hair was sticking up even more than before.

"Sorry," Percy said, not looking very sorry at all. "Your hair just looked too easy to mess up-"

Before he could finish, Amaya reached up and ruffled his hair too.

"Hey," Percy protested, trying to smooth down his hair.

"Payback," Amaya said, grinning smugly.

Percy tried to glare at her, but he couldn't stay mad at her for long.

"You're lucky your hair is so ruffle-able," he mumbled, still trying to fix his hair.

Amaya just stuck out her tongue at him.

Hope, who had been watching their little interaction, shook her head. "You two are ridiculous, we have to wash the pots and platters with the cleaning harpies right now, you guys can be adorable later."
