---Heeseung took a deep breath, still grappling with the surreal situation before him. Six of his closest friends had transformed into toddlers, their tiny bodies crawling and stumbling around the living room. Each of them wore expressions of confusion and fear, and it was clear that they didn’t recognize one another or even themselves.
“Okay, okay,” Heeseung murmured to himself, his mind racing as he surveyed the room for some sort of plan. “I need to keep them calm.”
He crouched down to their level, trying to maintain a soothing demeanor. “Hey, everyone. It’s me, Heeseung. Remember? We’re all friends.” His heart sank as he watched their blank stares in response, realizing they were too young to comprehend his words.
Sunoo, sitting on the carpet, looked up at Heeseung with big, teary eyes. He seemed to recognize him on some level but didn’t know how to express it. His small hands reached out, and Heeseung’s heart ached at the sight.
“Sunoo! It’s okay, buddy. Don’t cry,” Heeseung reassured, reaching out to scoop him up into his arms. The instant he held Sunoo, the little boy clung tightly, burying his face in Heeseung’s shoulder.
“Shh, it’s alright,” Heeseung whispered, patting Sunoo’s back gently. “I’m here. I promise I won’t let anything happen to you.”
Meanwhile, Jake was in a different corner, attempting to play with a colorful stacking toy. He could barely manage to pick up the blocks, his frustration bubbling over. “Nnnaaaah!” he cried, dropping the blocks and throwing himself back onto the floor in a fit of toddler rage.
“Oh no, Jake!” Heeseung called, shifting Sunoo to his hip as he hurried over to him. “Let’s try this together.” He knelt down next to Jake, who stared at him with wide eyes filled with tears.
“Play!” Jake exclaimed, his tiny voice barely above a whimper.
“Okay, okay! Let’s play,” Heeseung said, grabbing a block and demonstrating how to stack it. “See? We can build something really cool together!”
With some encouragement, Jake slowly began to follow Heeseung’s example, albeit clumsily. Heeseung felt a sense of relief wash over him as he watched Jake start to stack the blocks, albeit not very successfully.
Meanwhile, Niki and Jungwon were holding onto each other for dear life, seeking comfort in their shared confusion. They were both wide-eyed, glancing around the room as if expecting it to change at any moment.
“Do you think we’re stuck like this forever?” Niki asked, his voice trembling.
“I don’t know,” Jungwon replied softly. “But we have to stick together.”
“Together!” Niki echoed, their bond evident even in their toddler forms.
Suddenly, Sunghoon, who had been trying to stand up, lost his balance and toppled over, landing with a soft thud on the carpet. He looked up at Heeseung, eyes filled with uncertainty and fear.
“Sunghoon! You’re okay! Just keep trying!” Heeseung encouraged, quickly setting Sunoo down so he could help Sunghoon. “It’s just a little fall. You can do it!”
Heeseung reached out a hand, and after a few moments of hesitation, Sunghoon took it, slowly pulling himself up again. A small smile formed on Sunghoon’s lips, but it quickly vanished when he realized he was still wobbly on his feet.
“Whoa, whoa!” Heeseung exclaimed, supporting Sunghoon until he found his balance. “You’re doing great, buddy!”
As the minutes passed, Heeseung moved from one toddler to another, helping them adjust to their new reality. He watched as Niki and Jungwon played a gentle game of peek-a-boo behind the couch, giggling when they spotted each other.
“See, you’re not so scared!” Heeseung called out, his heart swelling with pride as he saw them find a moment of joy amidst the confusion.
But as the initial thrill of playtime began to fade, the toddlers grew restless. Sunoo, still feeling overwhelmed, began to whimper again. Heeseung immediately swooped him up into his arms, cradling him as Sunoo pressed his tiny head against Heeseung’s shoulder.
“Let’s get you all settled down,” Heeseung said softly, walking over to the couch where he had a good view of everyone. He knew they needed a quiet moment to regroup, especially as the reality of their situation began to sink in.
“Okay, little ones. Let’s sit together,” Heeseung instructed, settling down on the couch with Sunoo still in his arms. He placed him gently beside him and made room for the others.
As Heeseung gathered the toddlers around him, he felt the weight of his new responsibilities settle on his shoulders. “We might not remember everything right now, but we’re still a family. I promise I’ll take care of you.”
Sunghoon, feeling encouraged, slowly climbed onto the couch and nestled next to Heeseung, who wrapped an arm around him. Niki and Jungwon joined them, creating a small huddle of warmth and comfort.
Jake, feeling the atmosphere shift, crawled over to join the group. “Heeseung… play?” he asked, his words slurring together in his toddler speech.
“Of course, we can play!” Heeseung replied, looking around the room for ideas. “How about a story? I can tell you all a fun one.”
“Yay!” the toddlers cheered, their spirits lifting as they clapped their tiny hands together.
“Alright, let me think…” Heeseung began, recalling a story he used to love when he was younger. “Once upon a time, in a magical forest, there lived a little bear who loved to explore…”
As Heeseung narrated the tale, he watched their faces light up with fascination, their initial fears fading as they lost themselves in the story.
But as the minutes turned into hours, he couldn’t shake off the lingering worry in the back of his mind. How long would they be like this? And how could he help them regain their memories?
For now, he focused on keeping them safe and happy. Heeseung smiled, determined to cherish every moment with his little friends, even if they were all stuck in this bizarre toddler predicament.
With each passing minute, Heeseung felt the bond between them deepen. He would do everything in his power to protect these little versions of his friends. They might not remember who they were, but he wouldn’t let them face this challenge alone.
