General POV:
Maria De La Cruz, wandered through the halls of Liberty High, desperately searching around. It was the first day back after school for Maria after the tragic death of her older brother, Montgomery De La Cruz. He had always been so kind to her, especially since their father had always treated them like shit. But, to be the end of it, she'd stayed quiet. A little too quiet it appeared, as she felt it was all her fault that he was gone. She could've defended him to her father all those times, she could've told their dad that it was okay for Monty to be gay, although he said he wasn't a thousand times. He felt it was wrong and so he acted that way with Tyler, leading to his death in prison. Nobody deserves to do like that - she thought.
"Okay and now make sure to smile, be nice and be present. Nobody wants a boring and mean tour guide now do they?" Principal Bolan said, his hands wrapped around a student before gently pushing him forward and walking away, back into his office.
"Yes Principal Bolan." The boy said, watching as the office door shut. The boy looked up and ahead of him to see Maria. "Wait, you're my partner for the tour guide?"
"Yes, Clay. I am." Maria finally spoke, smiling at the boy as he walked towards her slowly. "Is there an issue with that or-"
"No, no. You're good. It's just that I remember giving a tour guide with Courtney that other time and I had a whole ass mental breakdown but whatever." Clay said, shooting her a straight faced smile before it quickly washed away and his face went back to his neutral self. It was hard to read boys - but of all boys, Clay was awfully hard to read.
"Oh, okay..." Maria continued. She wasn't quite sure what to say to him after that. She wished she was the best at conversations but unfortunately not. "So, uh... how's school?"
"Fucked, as per usual. With the police off my back though, I can finally relax. I think." Clay said, smiling awkwardly at Maria. She tilted her head and smiled back at him, although this time she paid more attention to him. His eyes, they were like blue ocean orbs - it was hard for Maria to look away. His jaw tensed in the most perfect ways, perfectly showing off how sharp it was. Maria knew she had been caught as he stared down at her deep brown eyes, before both their cheeks began to flush red.
"Uh, I-" Maria started to say before turning her head at a comment he was about to make.
"You know, you are really short, Maria." Clay said, scratching the back of his head and looking down at the floor. Clay had a habit of insulting someone or saying something stupid after he got flustered by something. He just couldn't help, he probably has issues.
"Oh wow! I see how it is! And I'm actually five feet, to be exact." Maria said, raising her brows and looking at him hurtfully as a joke, obviously. But poor Clay, he didn't seem to take the joke properly.
"Sorry, no that's not what I mean-" Clay started to say, almost touching her hand as he tried to comfort her but was abruptly cut off by the sight of a dark, curly haired boy who had just entered through the doors.
"He's here! Oh my god, we didn't even practice what we were gonna say- Hi!" Maria whisper-panicked, messing her hands as she gasped before pulling a smile that was way too big and an overly-enthusiastic voice over took her whisper-like tone.
"Uh, hey? I'm Winston- Winston Williams. I'm the new kid, I just- uh transferred from Hillcrest." He spoke, every word flowed out of him like it was natural. He held out his hand for Maria to shake but Clay took it and held him by his shoulder.
"Hi, I'm Clay- uh Jensen. Welcome to Liberty High, the most amazing school in the world where kids are happy and the school actually gives a fuck!" Clay said, expressing with his face how happy school made him - what a fucking lie. "I'm just kidding because that's a whole fucking lie but uh let me, and my dear friend-" Clay said, holding Maria's hand as he brought her beside him. "Maria over here, show you around Winston!"
Maria looked up at Clay, who was literally towering over her and just stared at him like she had done minutes before. Butterflies began to swarm her stomach. He was just surreal - looking at him felt unreal. He was just too perfect for his own good. Clay had the eyes of the ocean, the spark of something special and he was like no-one Maria had ever met before. He was special to her. He finally looked down at Maria, who was staring at him with dilated pupils and wide eyes. He blinked rapidly, trying to make sense of the situation. Butterflies began to swarm his stomach too. But before he could do anything or say anything, Winston cleared his throat before he began to speak.
"Uh, okay. Thanks." Winston reluctantly spoke. He leaned over to Maria's ear and whispered gently right next to her, "Yo, is this Clay guy always so weird?"
Maria stifled a giggle, covering her mouth before whispering back to him, "Yeah, I guess it's sort of just his thing. He leaves quite an impression, especially on the new kids."
"I heard that!" Clay said, turning around to look at the two, who were giggling their asses off. "Guys, come on. It's not even that funny."
"It is, a little." Maria whispered back. Maria looked at Winston and he looked at her and for the first time in a long time, she felt a tug in her stomach. It was urging her to move closer to him but it was a familiar feeling - different to the butterflies she had felt with Clay, but still a feeling. Anyways, she felt the need to move closer to Winston and so she did. He didn't seem to mind at all - in fact, he had also moved closer to her as they continued to walk through the halls.
"So over here, we have the cafeteria. Food, tables, dinner ladies, lunch lines, bathrooms, windows, doors, blah, blah, blah." Clay said, pointing over at each thing as he listed them, keeping his voice fairly monotone. Oh, isn't Clay just a bundle of joy right now? No kidding, he is such a good tour guide, right?
