General POV:
As lunch continued on, they continued to make Maria feel welcome, despite her being related to such an asshole. Jessica and Tyler especially felt bad for her. Jess decided that it wasn't her fault that Monty was that way and despite Jessica despising anything related to rape culture, she wanted to protect Maria from everyone else. She had nothing left. And as for Tyler, he decided that eventhough it was Maria's brother who had him hurt him the most, he couldn't deal with hating his sister. After all, she hadn't done anything wrong. It wasn't her fault.
"So," Jessica said, taking a pause to take a sip of her drink. "Maria, have you ever thought about Winston like that?"
"What? What does that even mean?" Maria choked out, almost spitting out the water in her mouth. She wiped her mouth slightly before continuing with, "We're not like that. I swear."
"Huh, okay then-" Jessica said before she was quickly cut off by Justin's quick comment.
"Bullshit." He swiftly spoke, before shoving his water bottle into his mouth.
"Okay guys, let's stop pressuring her to speak, maybe she isn't okay with this-" Charlie said, motioning with his hands downwards, trying to calm them down.
"No, no! It's fine! I'm okay, I promise." Maria said, before a slight giggle followed. She took a sip of her water and watched as Clay's gaze met hers and they locked eyes, staring as they sat next to each other.
"Speak of the devil-" Alex whispered to the table, before he smirked slightly. "Bro, Zach. Wake the fuck up, pay attention!"
"Huh? What? Oh, right! Sorry, I'm just a little tired, I didn't get any sleep last night. Was out, smoking weed all night yesterday then I hooked up with some chick I saw on the streets." Zach said, slowly as if he were drunk. He probably was.
You see, the thing with Zach was that his health and wellbeing started deteriorating after Bryce had died, due to his broken leg, he thought his life was over because his dreams were crushed. No football meant no life for Zach.
Winston walked around, his lunch tray in his hands. He looked around, seeing how everyone had a friend or a group to sit with. He just wanted a person to hang around with because right now, he felt really lonely. Being the new kid to Liberty was already enough to deal with but having no friends felt like a ton of weights on his back, to make it even more worse. He sighed and was about to sit on the table next to Clay and his friends, all alone when all of a sudden he heard a friendly, familiar voice.
"Hey! Winston! Come sit with us!" Tyler said, waving at Winston.
"Are you sure?" Winston replied softly, yet his voice was heavy. "I-I don't want to make things weird for you guys-"
"No, no! It's fine." Charlie replied with, smiling brightly at Winston to which he slightly smiled back. Winston wasn't really a smiler.
"Oh, okay thanks!" Winston replied with, smiling a little more passionately this time.
"Come, sit!" Alex said, looking over the table to see where there was a spot for Winston to sit at. "Uh, there's a spot left next to Maria, so you can go sit there if you want."
"Sure, I don't mind." Winston said, looking at Maria with a smirk. She began to blush like mad, her cheeks flushing a shade of red that was so dark, it didn't even exist on the colour palette.
