FEATHERS PAPER SWAN AND RUES FLOWER WERE SOAKED. When Saleah had fallen into the lake, the water ruined the last two things she had to remember her sister and her ally.
She was currently drying them over the fire, trying to save the flower and the swan.
Isla had questioned her, but Saleah brushed it off, not in the mood to explain anything. She just wanted to fix the gifts.
When the paper swan had dried, as well as the flower, she felt relief all over her body.
Saleah plopped herself down in the snow and held the two objects in her palm tightly as she thought about Feather and her family. She thought about all the people waiting for her to come back home. Her siblings, her father, her aunt. Her best friend Mist.
She had no doubt that Mist was helping her family, taking care of her siblings. She knew that her best friend was probably keeping them distracted, keeping them away from any screens, so they wouldn't have to watch their sister in the games.
It was starting to get dark, so Isla put out the fire. Neither of the girls could sleep.
"I'm so tired." Saleah sighed.
"Me too, but we can't sleep. We have to be alert." Isla reminded her.
The girls sat in silence for what felt like forever, until they heard two voices get close to them.
"The tributes from five." Isla whispered.
Saleah panicked, Isla on the other hand was quite calm as she grabbed her backpack.
She took Saleah's hand, and quietly guided her to the nearest tree.
"Can you climb?" She asked.
Saleah nodded. Finally all her days of fooling around and climbing trees back home payed off she thought as she scrambled up the tree.
Isla followed closely behind.
Saleah hoisted herself up onto a sturdy branch, she then reached down and pulled Isla up with her.
The two stayed quiet as the two tributes from five walked around the girl's camp. Kicking the firewood and searching for anything valuable.
Saleah pulled out a knife from her belt, aiming at the male tribute from five's head.
Isla grabbed her hand, lowering the knife. "What are you doing?" She whispered.
"Lowering the possible threats!" Saleah said.
"No, you don't have to kill them!" Isla shook her head.
"If I don't they might take over our camp. And even if they do leave they know where our spot is they could come back later. Only one person can win, you said it yourself."
Isla sighed a heavy sigh, but let go of Saleah's hand. She pulled out a slingshot from her pocket, loading it with a a sharp rock and aiming it at the girl.
