Vi coughs and regains consciousness, sitting up, but felt pain from her side. She looks down to see Alex and shake her awake. "Alex? Alex! Wake up!"
Alex regains consciousness and quickly sits up, but recoils in pain as she does.
They're at the bottom of the mine shaft. Vi looks around, and finds a tunnel further into the darkness. It's their only way through.
Alex looks around and finds a lantern. She feels around her person and finds the matchbook from the Blu Cat Cafe, the one with a single match left inside. She crawls toward the lantern, lights the match, and uses it to light the lantern. It surprisingly does work. She puts the matchbook back in her pocket and stands up with great difficulty, taking the lantern with her.
"Where are we?" Alex asked
"Below the minds I guess, but we gotta to find a way out of here." Vi helps Alex up and walks through the tunnel and into a large cavern. As she looks around, a hissing sound begins to emanate from the lantern and the flame begins to flicker.
"No no no no, come on, no!
The flame dies, leaving Vi and Alex in the dark. Alex cries out. "Hey, hey, Alex. Calm down. We can get through this." Vi calms her down.
Alex gathers herself and says some words of encouragement. "Okay. I can do this. I can do this. Let's get out of here. I'll lead."
After a moment, a mysterious red glow casts light on Alex. It's faint at the place where their standing, but it gets brighter further down one of the tunnels. "Okay. That's something."
"What?"
She realizes it's not a light, but an aura. "That aura is the only lead We've got." She walks toward it. As she does, she hears the voices of a memory.
Jed: Alright boys, getting close.
Helldiver 1: Helldivers for life, huh Jed?
Helldiver 2: Dig so deep, we see where the devil sleeps.
Jed: Goddamn right.
Alex gasps. "Vi... This is it... This is what Typhon tried to bury..."
"Now way..." VI was in disbelief
Helldiver 3: Lotta runoff moisture in this soil. Jed, we gotta call it, this dig is fucked.
Jed: Nothing's *******.
Helldiver 3: Jed, we got no pumps running, no--
Jed: My teams have never quit a dig this deep before! We finish the job! Steady goes... Steady...
The sound of a wall breaking and water gushing in is heard.
Helldiver 1: The **** was--
Helldiver 2: Move! Come on! Clear the tunnel!
Helldiver 3: Who's on radio?
Helldiver 4: Jed! ****! Jed! JED!
Helldiver 5: We gotta move! Now!
Jed: There's still men back there! They'll drown!
Helldiver 5: Yeah, and so will we if we don't get the **** out. Make the call, Jed!
Jed: Goddamnit. Goddamnit. Everyone! Let's go, now!
"Oh my god..." Alex whispers.
"What? What is it?" Vi asks.
