9. Impossible Isn't Impossible

I paced.

And paced.

And paced some more.

I'd taken (g/n) to my house since she passed out.

And just after I realized that I was in love with her...

"Kirito?"

I looked in her direction, seeing her watching me tiredly.

I blushed madly.

"Y-yeah?"

Her (e/c) eyes immediately were filled with concern.

"Why did you just turn red? Is it possible to get sick in the game?"

"N-no! It's nothing! Really!"

"Kirito-kun! You're acting weird!"

"Am I?!"

I felt so awkward. Does (g/n) really like me?

Something poked my cheek.

"Kirito-kun~!"

I jumped away, and she looked at me, obviously confused.

"Why are you freaking out?"

"No reason!"

Her gaze hardened.

"Don't be like that!"

I looked her in the eye, then looked to the floor.

"Is it... Is it about before?"

I glanced up.

"I told you I can't tell you yet... Is that why you're acting like this?"

I inhaled deeply.

"No. It's more about after that."

I bit my lip, hoping she wouldn't understand.

I watched as her eyes instantly clouded, then they widened.

An intense red spread across her face.

"Y-you were awake?!"

"Yeah..."

She stared at me, unable to speak.

"You... You're a dumbass..." she choked out, her expression unchanging.

"I know..."

(G/n)'s POV

I just stood there, not knowing what to do.

He. Heard. Me. Confess.

Inside, I was screaming and mentally punching myself.

This just got weird.

I backed up a few steps, then realization struck me.

He's going to reject me. Of course. He was in love with Asuna, not me.

I looked down, crestfallen.

"H-hey, I have to go now. I'll see you later." I muttered, walking away as fast as I could.

"(G/n), wait!"

"I'm sorry!"

I ran, all the way back to the inn I was staying at.

I opened the door, then collapsed on my bed. I curled up, crying softly.

I'm the dumbass! How could I have said something so embarrassing?!

"What did I get myself into?" I whispered, "It's only a game. If the game is beaten, then I won't be able to see him again. It's impossible."

"You know, it might not be."
