Closeness is a curse.
The moment poor Komiki's life was torn from Natsuki's hands, she knew her life was over. It was destroyed. A distant happy memory both at the back of her mind and at the very front of her life.
Leaving her life of jujutsu behind her may have been the best decision of her life.
Well, that will be the case when she gets the fuck out of Tokyo. But for now, she has to live in the dirty city, in a grubby shared apartment for a whole year until she's saved up enough to move.
365 days.
365 days of heaven?
Or 365 days of utter hell?
Who knows?
Her head pulls off of the cool taxi window as it nears her new apartment. It pulls over, and she grabs her bags, carrying them with ease onto the pavement before tipping the driver and waving goodbye to him.
Thankfully, the landlord had mailed her the key a couple of weeks ago, so now on the first of September at 12:35, she can slip the key into the front door, giving her access to the elevators that bring her all the way to the fourth floor of her apartment building. As she pulls her suitcases out of the elevator, she finds herself wondering how long it'll be until she's doing the opposite. Dragging her suitcases, her belongings, her last piece of physical existence she owns.
Slamming her keys into the door, she opens it up, revealing a rather small corridor that leads onto a kitchen, parted with the living room by only a small wall that comes up to her stomach.
To the left of that is a slightly longer corridor with one room on each side and another room at the end of the corridor.
On the door on the right, her name is scribbled on a note with black ink.
*Hirai Natsuki.*
She grabs it and looks at the name on the opposite door and tilts her head curiously... it sounds eerily familiar, like it's desperate to roll off her tongue in a familiar way but finds itself becoming stuck and lodged at the back of her throat.
Dismissing it, she continues into her room.
A metal and empty bed sits beside a small, white side table. Opposite the bed is an old wooden wardrobe with a few metal hangers loosely hanging inside. Beside it is a fancy-looking chest of drawers with a couple of heart stickers on its side.
On the opposite side of the room is a large desk, attached to a sideways bookshelf with no certain back.
With a sigh, a small frown falls on her face as she begins to unpack some of her clothes and put them into different drawers.
She likes the room. Too much.
After finishing her annoyingly exciting job of unpacking her small amount of clothes, she begins making her bed, putting on fresh sheets and placing her small penguin plush on her bed. The penguin, Pammy, was tear-stained and flat due to the fur inside being tightly squished in her warm embrace for so long that it had molded into the shape of her arms.
Despite its disheveled appearance, that penguin is her anchor.
Opening her windows and smiling at the setting sun, she waves out the window.
"Goodnight Komiki! I love you so much."
A few dastardly hours later, another man appears at the door and turns the keys in the lock, strolling in, hands in pockets and eyes heavy and tired.
His legs practically drag across the kitchen as he yawns, stretching his tight arms up and letting his jaw fling open. His eyes dart to the door opposite his, and the note containing Natsuki's name is gone.
He smiles as he hears her loud snores and enters his own room, grabbing the sheet of paper with his name on it and chucking it in the bin before collapsing onto his bed, leaving unpacking his bags for later.
