Cheng strolled alone through the hallway. He looked out the window at the playground and the lush green trees. Warm rays of sunlight caressed his nose. Today was his first day of school. At least... if you could put it that way. Since he moved here, he had only been to school today. Before that... he had had to stay in the home. Cheng was so happy that he was finally eighteen. Finally, he could decide for himself what to do. "Now I'm finally free," he grumbled and went down the stairs. Outside on the sports field, he heard someone playing basketball. Cheng continued walking uninterested when suddenly the ball rolled towards him. Fear rose within him. He didn't want the future to repeat itself.

Lu must never find out about his powers.

"Hey! Can you give it to me?" a boy with black hair wanted to know. His amber eyes shone at him. Cheng picked up the ball and skillfully threw it to Lu. "Not bad. What's your name?" the guy grinned. Cheng didn't feel like talking. Especially with strangers. He came up to the guy and held out his hand. "Cheng. I'm new here," he grumbled. "Lu. Nice to meet you," Lu grinned even wider. At that exact moment, Cheng felt nothing.

Actually, this moment, this exact second, was supposed to change Lu's life. But Cheng felt nothing. And Lu felt nothing either. For a moment, the black-haired man looked at him strangely, then he grinned. "You can let go of my hand again, you know that, right?" he said and smiled. "Oh yes, sorry," Cheng said quickly, but still didn't dare to breathe. Had his time travel worked? He had changed Lu's blood infusion.

Now Lu had no powers. No more possibility of traveling to the past. Not anymore.

"It seems to have worked..." Cheng sighed and smiled. Lu looked at him confused. "What exactly do you mean?" he frowned. "Nothing, nothing... I'm just talking to myself," Cheng turned away and focused on the ball.

"Let's play a game of basketball instead."Images flashed through his head.

Lu. His parents.

"I'm so glad I met you," Cheng had said and smiled again for the first time in a while. Fate might not be able to be changed, but it could be significantly shifted.

"Hey, do you want to come with me, Cheng? I really have to pretend to be my childhood friend Luni for you," the black-haired man suggested. His grin grew wider and wider. "Gladly..." Cheng replied, even though fear was eating away at his heart.

People. Lots of people. They walked through the busy streets while cars drove along the cobblestones and seagulls screeched overhead. Their hungry eyes searched for a piece of bread that they could steal from the person's hand. Cheng dragged himself behind his friend and grumbled. This time he was glad to be able to come along. But he also felt something else. A look at his hands told him that he didn't have much time left. Orange veins ran through his skin like small cracks. His change in the past had created a paradox. He was no longer allowed to exist. The Cheng from the future would soon dissolve. Only the Cheng from the past would remain.

"Couldn't you have chosen a different time, Lu?" he wanted to know, although it sounded more like a grumble. Lus turned around and grinned. "Come on, we're almost there!" he replied. Cheng grumbled, but said nothing, trying to suppress his pain. He ran his hand through his blond hair, which was lying on his forehead. Sweat made it stick to his face. The two were finally able to push through the crowd when they stopped on a main road. The traffic light had just turned red. "Can you at least give me back my headphones?" Cheng asked and tried to grab Lu's hand, but Lu quickly pulled them away. "Ah, ah, you'll be listening to music and won't understand a word," Lu replied with a grin. "Yes, yes," Cheng said quietly and ran his fingers through his hair once more. Inwardly he was glad to be able to hear Lu's voice again.Lu's dark eyes looked at him, partly amused, partly excited.
