Epilogue

This story began on December 12th, 2014 when Daniel was hit by a car that sent him into a coma for seven years. Since then, many events have taken place that have twisted and adjusted the plot of his life; some for the better, while some were for the worst. But nothing can quite prepare someone for the end.

But, just like every story has a beginning, every story also has an ending. Some endings are filled with celebration and some are full of mourning. Some are long and seem never ending, while others are short and abrupt.

Daniel's story ended on August 27th, 2041.

This wasn't the end of a career or the end of a friendship. This was the end of Daniel's life. He did not die from the damage of a car crash or from a shot wound, and he did not die from old age either. Daniel died from a heart attack at the age of 46.

Some would say his life was short lived, they said he was still too young to die. But Daniel believed that he had lived his life to its maximum potential, and in the end, that's all that mattered. No one can tell how to live your life or when it should end, although they can influence your opinion. Even his death was unexpected, Daniel knew that that didn't matter. It doesn't matter how long you live, it's how well you live it. In every aspect of Daniel's life, he learned that lesson. Every person he met, every place he visited, every moment he lived; Daniel knew that life was too short to worry. When he was a kid, he was afraid of change. But now he knew that you live through change, and you adapt.

On the day that Amelia left to go back to Switzerland, she had said, "See you later," and promised to come back. She was the type of person to stay true to her words, no matter how difficult. So Amelia visited Daniel annually on his birthday every year. Even though she had a new life, she still came back to keep in touch with her past. When Amelia came to Grey Pond, she would go to Daniel's house and they would sit down together and catch up on everything that had happened in the past year.

Amelia had married a man from Zürich named Levin and they had three children with the names Noah, Luca, and Alina. Amelia would tell Daniel stories of her family every year when they met up. At first Daniel felt awkward knowing that Amelia had moved on and made a family while he was still stuck in the past, but then he realized that he was a happy for her. Even if Daniel couldn't move on in life, at least Amelia could. And she was happy while doing so.

Daniel had never gotten married nor had kids. His mother had always tried to make him socialize in hopes that we would find a wife, but Daniel never did. He had been in love twice in his life; one had died tragically and one he didn't even remember. Daniel also realized that he didn't need someone else to be happy.

His father had passed away when Daniel was in his thirties. Daniel decided to take over the moving company. It was hard, but he persevered. Now that Daniel was gone, his mother was left widowed and her only child was dead.

Jelly had died shortly after Daniel's father. He lived a long and exciting life for a dog, but eventually his systems started to shut down and the faithful little dog Daniel and Amelia had found as a puppy was no longer living and breathing. In the last month of Jelly's life, Daniel took the little dog everywhere with him. He knew that Jelly's time was coming and he didn't want him to be alone when it did. No one should be alone when they're on their death bed, not even a dog.

When Jelly's body did finally shut down, Daniel buried him under the tree right outside the window of his room. When he felt like he couldn't handle being alive anymore, Daniel would look out at the tree and remember how loyal Jelly was. He never gave up. If Jelly could persevere till the end, so could Daniel.
