Adhara had never gone more than a week without talking to Alecto. It was in their fourth year, when the two girls had had a fight over something, Adhara couldn't even remember the details now, she just knew that it had been one of the most miserable and uncomfortable weeks of her life.
Now they were getting ready in the same dorm, Adhara fixing her black waves and Alecto applying makeup to her already beautiful face, without a word being shared between the two.
Alecto was angry, Adhara could tell. She held her chin high and slammed her things around carelessly. Adhara flinched everytime she heard the red head slam her makeup supplies onto her vanity.
"You could have told me. I had to find out from the prophet after you blew up main street." Alecto snaps, breaking their eight month long silence. Adhara sighs.
"I was scared." She whispers as she looks up at Alecto through her long lashes, a small pout resting on her lips.
Adhara didn't pout often, only rarely when she really wanted forgiveness, and even then Adhara's excessive pride usually got in the way of forgiving first. But she wanted Alecto to forgive her more than she cared about her pride. Days without Alecto seemed to be duller, and Adhara wanted back her sense of normalcy, even if only for the rest of the year.
Alecto smiles and sighs.
"It was dreadful without you, Ara. Of course I had Dora, but she's not you. She doesn't understand me like you do." The red head quickly jumps up to hug her, and Adhara allows it, even though their friendship didn't much involve physical contact.
So for the first time in eigth months, Adhara walked into the great hall with her friend. People stared as they passed, whispering about how Adhara Black had gone from nearly dead looking to drop dead gorgeous in one night.
The secret was Alecto. The red head had covered Adhara's deep eyebags and given her face a little color. Her clothes were tighter fitting, even though Adhara was skin and bone, she still looked better with clothes that didn't hang off her frame.
"Well look who kissed and made up." Amycus grins as the two girls sit down across from him. He would never admit it, but he had missed Adhara and Severus while the two had distanced themselves.
"I kind of enjoyed the silence." Barty laughs, and Adhara smacks his shoulder.
"We've missed you, Ara." Evan sighs as he kisses her forehead before settling down next to Regulus, away from Barty.
"Now where is Severus? We haven't kissed and made up yet." Amycus sticks out his neck as he searches for the black haired boy. He grins when he sees him, and Severus pulls a face before turning around. Amycus quickly chases after him, and with the help of Evan, they pull Severus to sit with them.
"We all know now, Sev. Might as well face it together." Alecto smiles, and Severus rolls his eyes in defeat.
"I enjoyed the silence." He monotones, and Pandora squeezes his hand reassuringly.
"Where's Dorcas?" Adhara looks around, finally noticing why the younger Slytherin group looked so empty. They were missing a member.
Everyone falls silent at Adhara's question, and Evan's face contorts into a mix of sadness, anger, and pain. Amycus puts a comforting hand on his shoulder.
