That night, Emilia and Adrian found themselves back at the Italian restaurant, seated at the same booth as before. The atmosphere was lively, filled with laughter and the clinking of glasses, but for Emilia, the world outside felt distant.

"Cheers to our victory!" Adrian raised his glass, his eyes shining with enthusiasm.

"Cheers!" Emilia clinked her glass against his, unable to suppress her smile. They had worked so hard, and now it felt like they were finally starting to reap the rewards.

After ordering their food, the conversation flowed easily. They reminisced about their time spent preparing for the mock trial, laughing at the most ridiculous arguments they'd had over the finer details of their case.

"Remember when I insisted we include that ridiculous statistic about jellybeans?" Adrian asked, shaking his head. "I can't believe you actually considered it for a second."

"Hey, don't knock jellybeans! They're a vital part of any trial strategy," Emilia retorted, her eyes sparkling with amusement. "But seriously, I can't believe how far we've come. I didn't think we'd make such a great team."

"Me neither," he admitted, leaning back in his chair. "But it's nice to have someone who challenges me. I don't usually get to work with people who push me to be better."

"Same here," she replied, feeling her cheeks flush. "I've never had a project partner who makes me rethink everything."

"Wait, are you saying I'm better than your last partner?" he teased, a playful smirk on his face.

Emilia rolled her eyes, her heart fluttering at the banter. "Don't get cocky, Carter. You've still got a long way to go before you're my favorite."

"Challenge accepted," he replied with a wink.

As they continued to eat and talk, the restaurant began to wind down for the night. The bustling energy slowly faded, leaving a more intimate ambiance. After finishing their meals, Adrian leaned forward, resting his elbows on the table.

"So, what's next for you?" he asked, his tone suddenly serious. "What do you want to accomplish this summer?"

Emilia took a deep breath, pondering the question. "Honestly, I want to make the most of this internship and learn as much as I can. I want to impress my mentors and really establish myself in this field. I have a lot to prove."

"I get that," Adrian said, his expression thoughtful. "But you should also take some time for yourself. You're so focused on impressing everyone; you might forget what you really want."

"What do you mean?" Emilia asked, intrigued.

"I mean, what do you want outside of all this?" he pressed. "What do you enjoy doing when you're not drowning in legal briefs?"

She paused, realizing how seldom she reflected on her own happiness. "I don't know. I like reading, hiking, traveling... but I never really prioritize those things. They always seem secondary to my career goals."

"Why do you think that is?" Adrian asked, his gaze steady.

"I guess I've always felt like I needed to prove myself," she admitted, her voice quieter now. "I want to show everyone that I can succeed in this field. My parents expect a lot from me, and I can't let them down."

"You're doing this for them?" he asked, surprise evident in his tone.

"I mean, yes and no," she replied, feeling vulnerable. "I want to succeed for myself too, but sometimes it feels like their expectations weigh heavily on me."

Adrian nodded, his expression softening. "I understand that. My family has similar expectations for me. Sometimes it feels like I'm just living to fulfill someone else's dream instead of my own."
