Her Family's House
Same Day Earlier
Spanish Harlem"How's mom doing?" I asked my father. He rolled his eyes and ignored me. Lilly smacked her lips. "She fine, Jenna," she said, sounding annoyed. "I didn't answer her because she doesn't need to know about my wife," he said in a nasty tone. I rolled my eyes and got up. I wasn't going to keep taking their bullshit anymore.
I walked out of the house, slammed the door, and walked to my job. I was so mad "Stupid fucking family," I mumbled to myself. I kept mumbling things under my breath, and I wanted to cry but held back my tears and kept walking "Shit!" I said as I fell to the ground. I looked down, hit the ground, and started crying.
I couldn't hold it anymore. "Why is my life like this!" I yelled, letting more tears drop. "Why are you crying, beautiful?" I heard his soft voice say to me. I looked up and saw Arias standing in front of me. He looked so worried. I wiped my eyes. "It's nothing. I'm sorry I bumped into you," I apologize to him. "You are going somewhere?" He said, wiping a tear away. "To my job." I looked at him, and he stood up and reached his hand out for me to grab. I took it, and he helped me up. "I'll walk you there. Come on," he said
He looked around and then back at me. "Where do you work?" he asked. I turned and pointed at the shop on the corner. He smiled. "Come on," he said, pulling me towards him. We walked in a comfortable silence. He was still holding onto my hands for some odd reason; I felt safe in his present
we finally made it to my job. He let go of my hand even though I didn't want him to let go. My hand felt cold with his warm touch. I shook it off and walked inside the store. He followed me in. "finally, you here? I'm heading out. See you tomorrow," my boss Ross said. He went to the back to grab his things. I walked towards the door and walked in, locking it behind me.
He walked up to the bulletproof window. "What time do you get out?" he asked me as he leaned on the counter. "7:30 A.m." It was Friday night and the start of the weekend. I generally work overnight on Fridays and Saturday nights since I don't do anything on the weekends. "Are you here by yourself? All night?" he asked. I nodded my head.
Despite the potential dangers of working late as a girl, the extra pay for night shifts is a strong incentive. "Do you ever get bothered?" he asked, raising an eyebrow. "I mean, I deal with my fair share of arguing customers," I replied, picking up the remote and putting on some background noise.
"Jenna, lock up for an hour and do inventory and stock tonight." I nodded my head at my boss, letting him know I understood. He looked at Arias and back at me. "If you want, your friend can stay the night with you," he said, turning to Arias. You can sit in there with her, but if I find out you took any money, I will have you arrested," he said, threatening Arias.
Arias raised his hand in the air. "I promise not to steal," he said. Ross looked at him before looking at me. "Have a good night and keep an eye on him," he said before leaving. I looked at Arias, and he stared at me. "You going to open the door?" he said. I was taken aback because I didn't think he was going to stay.
I walked over to the door, unlocked, and returned to the front. Arias came in and locked the door. I sat in one of the chairs, and he did the same. "don't worry, I'm not staying long. I got to go somewhere anyway, but I'll be back to pick you up," he said, looking at me. "go close, and I'll help you with your work stuff, and once you're finished with everything, I'll leave." I looked at him, confused
why was he being protective over me? We just met. I had those thoughts in my head. He noticed my confused face. "I need to make sure you are safe; plus, a beautiful girl like yourself shouldn't be walking home alone," he said, smiling at me. I looked away and blushed a little bit
"Go close up so we can start," he said. I got up, and he followed me out. I locked the door, flipping the open sign to close. I turned around and bumped into him. "I'm sorry," I said in a whisper. "umm, you can do the stock, and I'll check everything in," I said, looking at him. He smiled down at me
we stood like that for a good minute before he moved to the side. "After you," he said in a low, sexy tone. My legs got weak; hearing his tone, I walked to the back, grabbing a box. Arias grabbed it from my hand. "Where are the rest of the boxes?" he asked as Arias put the one in hands down; I pointed to the four boxes on the floor. "go do your inventory, and I'll grab the rest of the boxes," he said walking to the back I went to the front and grabbed the clipboard.
I started checking everything in. Arias returned with the last box from the back and sat it down. He started opening a box and putting things on the shelf. We worked in a comfortable silence, and it felt good having him around. It felt great. I knew it wouldn't last long, but I was going to Savior this moment for as long as I could
The time had passed, and we finally finished. "that's it, thank you for the help," I said, putting the clipboard back. "You welcome, love," he said, looking down at me. "I'm heading out, but I'll be at 7 to come to get you," he said. "but I get out at 7:30." I looked at him crazy. "I'm bringing you breakfast," he said, smiling at me
he looked at his phone. "Where is your phone?" he asked. I patted my pants and pulled it out of my back pocket. He took it out of my hand and opened it. "no passcode, huh?" he raised an eyebrow. "I don't hide anything," I told him. He smirked before handing me my phone. I noticed he put his phone number in my phone
"I'm heading out, but when I call you later, pick up love," he said, wrapping his arms around me; Arias hugged me. I wrapped my arms around his neck, feeling the warmth of his embrace. We held each other like that for a minute before we pulled apart, but he still held onto me. "I'll call you to check on you," he said, smiling. "Now go inside, lock the door, and have a good night." he said, giving me a kiss on the cheek before letting me go.
I turned around quickly, trying to hide my flushed cheek. I walked into the room and locked the door. 'Good night, my love,' he said, winking and blowing me a kiss. He unlocked the door, flipped the sign to open, and left. I took a seat, my mind filled with his lingering presence, a bittersweet reminder of our parting, lost in a whirlwind of emotions.
