And I know none of this will matter in the long run,
But l know a sound Is still a sound around no one
- I Want You To Love Me, Fiona Apple

The story has come so far, the reader must think it's drawing to a close. All loose ends are tied (well, most of them), the love interest and the main character are happy together, it seems like everyone is happy. But, just as my good friend deadpool once said, Life is an endless series of trainwrecks with only brief commercial-like breaks of happiness. This had been the ultimate commercial break.

>>july, the following year<<<

You were walking through the woods, tracing the bark on the trees. You enjoyed the silence of the woods. It provided you a temporary oasis, a place to let your mind wander. As you walk, you notice something. All the birds have stopped singing. You stop, a puzzled expression on your face.

Suddenly, a figure drops down from the trees.

"Fucking sabor tooth?!" You exclaim, your mouth dropping into a surprised O.

"Hello Y/N," he snarls, straightening his posture.

"How do you know my name?" You ask, raising your eyebrows. Your heart pounds, a bead dripping down the back of your neck.

"I've been watching you," he takes a step towards you.

"That's not ominous at all. What are you, fucking Santa Claus?" You ask, standing your ground.

He lets out a deep, dark chuckle, and you realize that you are in real danger. You take a step back, swallowing.

"Where is my brother?" He asks.

"Who?" You scrunch up your face.

"The Wolverine."

You let out a gasp of realization.

"Oh my god that makes so much sense." You mumble, all the pieces starting to fit together. Ever since Halloween, Logan had begun to remember little snippets and words of his past, and sabertooth was one, but he didn't know how they were connected.

He strides toward you, and your survival instincts kick in.

"Let's just talk about this-" you turn and run as he pounces. Your feet pound against the earth as you run for your life. Your pulse quickens, and you gasp for breath. You dare a glance behind you, one you will regret for a long time, one that will haunt your nightmares for centuries.

He's on all fours, bounding after you with the agility of a deer, but the murderous intent of a predator hunting down its prey. It feels like you're watching a movie of yourself as you trip, a tear dripping down your cheek. You feel him
on you, you feel the first initial piercing of his long nails into your abdomen. You cry out, a sob escaping you.

For your whole long life, you'd imagined what your death would be like. Maybe it would be peaceful, laying next to someone you love. Maybe you'd die gloriously in battle, fighting for what is right. But you never thought it would be like this. You never thought you would be alone, this unfamiliar feeling of pure terror rattling in your throat. You never thought the last voice you would hear would be this awful man. Your mind wandered to Logan. Would he be ok? You hoped he wouldn't do anything to erational. He was strong, he would make it. Your heart ached. You wished you could say goodbye, hold him one last time, tell him you loved him, kiss his soft lips and hold his strong calloused hands. To feel his arms embrace as you drifted to sleep together. You come to the realization that nothing mattered anymore. Nothing you'd ever done... mattered. You'd never hear that song again... never marry Logan... adopt his kids...never... never never never...

"When a tree falls in the forest," the claws dig dipper, and you cry out again. "And no one is around, does it even make a sound?" His claws are gone for a moment, and then there back, stabbing into your neck, the death blow. You let out a gut curdling scream that seems to shake the whole forest. It's the kind of scream that settles deep in your bones, a scream you never forget.

Logan was talking to Beast when he got the most unsettling chill wash over him. His head shot towards the window. Something was wrong. The feeling was familiar, but he could quite pinpoint it.

"Are you ok Logan?" Henry asks.

Logan sniffed the air, stepping towards the window. Then, he heard it, ever so quiet, somewhere in the distance, a death scream. Without a moment of hesitation, he bolted, running out of the room. He ran out of the house. Fear overtook him as he ran on all fours through the woods. He sniffed the air, picking up the scent of blood, fear, and you. So much of you, everywhere, all around. He ran faster, calling out your name. His breath was ragged, his movements desperate as he ran. Your scent got stronger, but it mingled with a different scent now, one that unsettled him greatly. Finally, he spotted you. He froze, his whole world seemed to fall away. You ran to you, shaking you. You desperately tried to peel your eyes open, the blurry sight of your lover bringing you back to the present moment. Pain racked your whole body, and when you tried to speak, your words came out as a gargle, blood filling your lungs.

"Shit shit shit, help!!!!" Logan cried out, tears in his eyes as he examined the wounds. Your vision was cutting in and out. You knew it was almost over. The pain seems to disappear now, you felt like you were floating.

"No, no no no!!" Logan picked you up in his arms like a baby, whispering reassuring words into your ear. You pretended like it was real, like he really was going to get help and everything would be fine. You breathe in his scent one more time, and everything is perfect as the world falls away. And as you die, wrapped in Logan's strong arms, you're ok with it. You've lived a long time, you've loved, you've lost, and everything, every bit of it was worth it.
