It was a day of celebration as Hoshi finally returned home from the hospital. The whole house of Mingyu was abuzz with excitement, and everyone was beyond just happy.
The atmosphere was filled with laughter, and the scent of home-cooked meals wafted through the air, creating an inviting ambiance. Hoshi, with his vibrant smile and twinkling eyes, had always been the heart of the group, and now that he was back, it felt like everything was falling back into place.
Jihoon walked in right beside Hoshi, a proud grin on his face as he held Hoshi's hand. The rest of the members gathered around, welcoming Hoshi back with a flurry of hugs and well wishes. "Look who's back!" Seungkwan shouted, rushing forward and pulling Hoshi into a tight embrace. "We missed you!" Seokmin joined the hug from back.
"I missed you guys too!" Hoshi replied, his voice full of warmth.
In the chaos of reunion, Taehyun, now three months old, gurgled happily in his father's arms, while Soobin, just fifteen days old, nestled comfortably against Jisoo's shoulder.
Soonyoung had already taken it upon himself to be the designated uncle, doting on both babies with a love that was palpable.
"Hey, little ones!" Soonyoung exclaimed, leaning down to meet Taehyun's curious gaze. "You're going to grow up to be just like your amazing uncle, right?" He grinned, flexing his bicep comically, making both babies giggle in response.
Jihoon chuckled softly, watching Soonyoung interact with the babies. "You're really getting into this uncle thing, huh?"
"Of course!" Soonyoung said, puffing his chest. "I'm going to be the coolest uncle ever. Just wait until they can walk. I'll take them on adventures!"
As the day progressed, Soonyoung noticed something different about Seungkwan. The usually vibrant and chatty member had taken on a quieter demeanor, his smiles not reaching his eyes.
Seungkwan had been trying to keep his feelings bottled up, but Soonyoung could see right through it. They had a bond that went beyond just friendship Seungkwan was like a younger brother to him.
Soonyoung decided to take a more subtle approach. After a while, he pulled Seungkwan aside, away from the lively gathering, and found a quiet corner where they could talk. "Hey," he started gently, "I've noticed you've been a bit off lately. Everything okay?"
Seungkwan shrugged, forcing a smile. "I'm fine. Just... you know, busy with everything."
"Busy with what? Avoiding Vernon?" Seokmin prodded, crossing his arms.
Seungkwan looked away, the tension evident in his posture. "It's complicated, okay?" he sighed, running a hand through his hair.
"Seungkwan. Avoiding each other won't end up at any conclusion." Sokmin Squeezed his shoulder.
"Is it, though?" Soonyoung leaned in closer, his voice calm and reassuring. "Look, I know things seem overwhelming right now, especially with the baby coming and everything, but have you thought about giving Vernon a chance?"
"What do you mean?" Seungkwan asked, frowning.
"Look at Jeonghan and Jisoo," Soonyoung said, gesturing towards the duo who were cooing over Soobin. "They are so happy together with their partners, now that they each have a child. Jeonghan didn't even want a baby at first, but look at him now. He's beaming with joy."
"Trust me Seungkwan... as a dad.. I can affirm it's the best feeling in the world holding that tiny bundle in your arms who looks at you like you are his whole universe." Seokmin said.
Seungkwan watched as Jeonghan leaned down to tickle Taehyun's tiny toes, making the baby giggle. "Yeah, but-"
"No buts," Soonyoung interrupted, his voice firm yet gentle. "You need to consider how your baby will feel. If you keep pushing Vernon away and acting like this baby is unwanted or a burden, how do you think your child will feel about that? They deserve to know they're loved, not just tolerated."
Soonyoung braced Seungkwan. "Seungkwanah... You can love your child openly, no need to hide it like your mom did. I know it was her choice, she made it hard for herself. You got a choice, realise it before it's too late. Your mom must be hoping the same from skies."
Seungkwan's expression shifted, his heart heavy with unspoken fears. "But what if I'm not ready? What if I can't be a good mom?"
"None of us are ever really ready for these things," Soonyoung replied honestly. "But it's about making the choice to embrace it. You can't do it alone. You have Vernon. He's just as scared as you are, but he wants to be there for you. You should let him in."
"Easy for you to say," Seungkwan muttered, crossing his arms. "You're not the one who's pregnant."
"No, I'm not. But I do know what it's like to feel overwhelmed and scared. Fear of leaving. I had to learn to lean on my friends and accept help." Soonyoung paused, his tone softening. "This baby is going to need you. Don't let fear push you away from the chance of having a loving family."
Seungkwan felt the weight of Soonyoung and Seokmin's words settle in his chest. There was a sincerity in Soonyoung's eyes and the experience talking in Seokmin's demeanour that made him rethink everything. "But what if it all goes wrong?" he asked, his voice trembling slightly.
"Then you face it together," Seokmin replied, placing a hand on Seungkwan's shoulder. "You're not alone in this. Just think about it, okay? You owe it to yourself and your baby to at least try."
"We are here to burst open Vernon's balls if he mess up again." Soonyoung said getting a determined nod from Seokmin.
Taking a breathy chuckle, Seungkwan nodded slowly, feeling the flicker of hope reignite within him. Maybe it was time to stop being stubborn and face his fears head-on. Maybe it was time to give Vernon another chance.
"Okay," Seungkwan finally said, his voice steadier. "I'll think about it."
"Good. Now let's go back and celebrate Hoshi's return. The babies need more love from their favorite uncle!" Soonyoung said with a grin, his energy infectious.
As they walked back into the room, Seungkwan felt a shift within himself. He was still scared, still unsure of what the future held, but he was willing to try.
He glanced at Vernon, who was helping Jisoo with Soobin, and for the first time in a while, he felt a flicker of excitement at the thought of being a mother.
With Soonyoung and Seokmin by his side, Seungkwan was ready to take the first step towards embracing the wild, beautiful chaos that awaited him with Vernon and his baby.
