A few days passed, and Vernon was relentless in his pursuit to mend the rift between him and Seungkwan. He had taken Soonyoung's advice to heart, showering Seungkwan with affection and support in ways he hoped would remind him of the love they once shared. From breakfast in bed to little surprises around the house, he was determined to show Seungkwan just how much he cared.
One bright morning, Vernon decided to elevate his breakfast-in-bed game. He meticulously arranged a tray filled with Seungkwan’s favorite foods: fluffy pancakes topped with fresh berries, a side of crispy bacon, and a steaming cup of coffee.
As he approached near bed, he paused near the washroom door, hearing Seungkwan’s soft voice on the other side. Curiosity piqued, he crept closer, peering into the room.
To his surprise, Seungkwan was standing in front of the full-length mirror, a vulnerable expression on his face. His hands rested gently on the small bump of his belly, and he was speaking softly to the child growing inside him. “I don’t want to hate you,” Seungkwan murmured, his voice tinged with emotion. “I love you, little one. You are not unwanted. You are not a burden to me.”
Vernon felt his heart swell and ache simultaneously. He had never seen Seungkwan so open, so raw. In that moment, it was as if all the walls Seungkwan had built around his feelings were crumbling down, exposing the love and fear he felt for their unborn child.
Overcome with emotion, Vernon let the tray slip from his hands, the clatter of plates echoing in the otherwise quiet room.
Seungkwan jumped slightly, startled by the noise, but his eyes widened when he turned around to see Vernon standing there, tears shimmering in his eyes.
Without thinking, Vernon rushed forward and wrapped his arms around Seungkwan from behind, pulling him into a tight embrace. “I am here and I am sorry.” he whispered, his voice trembling slightly. “I am here, and I love you both.”
Seungkwan melted into the embrace, feeling the warmth of Vernon’s body against his back. “Vernon…” he began, but his voice caught in his throat, the weight of his emotions finally crashing down on him.
“Shhh, it’s okay,” Vernon murmured, tightening his grip as he felt Seungkwan’s body tremble. “You don’t have to say anything. I am not going anywhere. I am here to understand you.”
Tears streamed down Seungkwan’s cheeks as he leaned into Vernon’s comforting hold. “I am scared,” he admitted, his voice barely above a whisper. “I don’t want to feel like this. I don’t want to be a bad mom.”
“You can be anything but a bad mom,” Vernon reassured him, gently rubbing his hands up and down Seungkwan’s arms. “You are going to be an amazing mom. Just look at how much you already care about this baby. You love them, and that’s all that matters.”
“But what if I am not enough? What if I mess everything up?” Seungkwan’s voice cracked, the raw vulnerability of his words hitting Vernon hard.
Vernon shook his head vehemently. “You won’t mess anything up. You are strong, and you are not alone in this. I am here, and I promise I will be by your side every step of the way. We are in this together.”
Seungkwan took a deep, shuddering breath, and Vernon felt the tension in his body start to ease just a little. “You mean it?”
“I do,” Vernon said firmly, his heart racing as he felt Seungkwan finally start to relax in his arms. “You are not unwanted, and you’re definitely not a burden. You and our baby mean everything to me.”
As Seungkwan leaned back into Vernon, he felt a flicker of hope ignite within him. Maybe this would work. Maybe they could be a family, despite the challenges that lay ahead. “I just want the baby to know they are loved,” Seungkwan confessed, his voice still shaky.
“They will know,” Vernon promised, pressing a kiss to the top of Seungkwan’s head. “We will show them every day. You are going to be an incredible mom, and I am trying to be the best partner I can be. We will figure this out together.”
Seungkwan turned around in Vernon’s arms, looking up at him with teary eyes. “Really? You will stick around even when things get tough? Without being wild and free.” Ending with a soft chuckle.
“Of course,” Vernon replied, his expression earnest. “I am not going anywhere. I am in this for the long haul, I swear.”
The tension in Seungkwan’s shoulders finally dissipated, and a small smile broke through his tears. “Okay,” he whispered, feeling the warmth of Vernon’s love wrap around him like a comforting blanket. “I think I can do this.”
“We...Together,” Vernon said, holding him closer.
As they stood there, wrapped in each other’s arms, both of them realized that love wasn’t just about grand gestures or perfect moments; it was about supporting each other, even in the most vulnerable times. It was about finding strength in one another and knowing that, no matter what, they would face whatever came their way together.
