As Seungkwan settled into his eighth month of pregnancy, life with Vernon became a delightful mix of excitement and sheer absurdity.
Their tiny rented apartment, which had once been a peaceful sanctuary, was now a hub of baby preparations.
Every corner overflowed with baby clothes, diapers, and endless supplies as Soonyoung and Jihoon practically moved in with them, offering their enthusiastic, if not slightly chaotic, support.
Seungkwan basked in all the pampering, feeling like a royal surrounded by his loyal subjects. He enjoyed the attention, though his patience was tested daily by Vernon's over the top eagerness and Soonyoung’s constant dramatics. Jihoon, always the sensible one, was the glue holding the chaos together.
But as Seungkwan felt the familiar tightening in his abdomen one evening, he realized the long-anticipated moment had arrived.
“Vernon, I think it’s time!” Seungkwan announced, a mix of excitement and growing panic in his voice. His words set off a whirlwind in their already lively home.
Vernon popped his head into the room, eyes wide, bouncing on his feet like an excited puppy. “Should I call the midwife? Or get snacks? Wait, do you want water?” he blurted out, unable to decide on the next step.
Seungkwan shot him a deadpan look, the kind only someone in early labor could give. “Vernon, this is not a snack emergency! Just call the midwife!” he said, waving Vernon away.
They had opted for a home birth, hoping for a serene, intimate experience. At least, that was the plan - before the reality of labor set in.
Seungkwan soon found himself in the tub, wearing oversized clothes, trying to relax in the warm water as the early contractions rolled in. The heat soothed his muscles for a while, but after three hours of soaking, the contractions intensified, and the tub became more of a burden than a relief.
“This was a terrible idea!” Seungkwan groaned between gasps of pain, clutching the sides of the tub. “Who convinced me that a home birth would be relaxing? We should have just gone to the hospital!”
Vernon, who had been pacing nervously outside the bathroom, rushed in with a wild look in his eyes. “Do you need help? Should I get the midwife now?” he asked, his voice rising with panic.
"I already told you three hours ago." Seungkwan gritted his teeth.
"She told me it'll take time. Should I call again?" Vernon asked his eyes shifting here and there in panic.
Seungkwan turned his head to glare at him through gritted teeth. “Yes! Get me out of this tub first! I feel like I am being boiled alive!”
Vernon stumbled in, trying to help him stand, but the combination of Seungkwan’s weight and his slick, wet skin made it a comically awkward task.
Eventually, with a lot of huffing and puffing, Vernon managed to get him out, and Seungkwan stood dripping wet, his face a mix of pain and humor.
“You look ridiculous,” Seungkwan gasped, leaning on Vernon as another contraction hit him. “Why are you the one panicking? I am the one doing all the work here!”
Vernon, still holding Seungkwan, tried to laugh but looked more frazzled than ever. “I know, I know! But I don’t know what to do! You are in pain, and I feel useless!”
"Just help me change into some dry clothes."
Vernon nodded grapping a new set of oversized outfit.
