Four years later
Knox - Age 26The library at Regal Eclipse Pack house had been designed to resemble the one at the old castle in England, but it was even larger. While the library in England had been two stories, this one was four. It was located in the east wing of the pack house. The Regal Eclipse Pack house had been expanded a few times over the years as well. The pack was much larger than it had been when they'd first arrived from across the pond. It had grown by leaps and bounds, with each generation seemingly larger than the last.
Ranald Remington, the original Alpha King, had probably never thought his own family would grow as large as it was either. His own son, and grandpups had sixteen pups between the five of them, let alone their offspring. Ranald would be a four times great grandfather if he was still alive. But he'd given up his own mortality and walked away from the pack a few hundred years ago.
He'd be even more pleased to know that a new generation of pups were due this year. Knox's niece, Noelle was pregnant with her third pup. The current Luna Queen, Cassidy, who was Knox's great nephew's mate, was pregnant with her second pup. Knox's great, great nephew's mate, Violet, was pregnant with their first pup. Knox wondered if it would be twins, given that both of the pup's parents were identical twins.
Dominic's twin sons had mated identical twins. Violet's sister had given birth to a set of twins two years ago. The nice thing was that they all lived together in one large house. Those twins had two sets of parents to love on them and take care of them. Knox knew that Dylan and Violet helped out as much as they possibly could with the twins. And he had no doubt that Damien and Vanessa would help out just as much with this new baby. Though if Violet didn't have twins, the poor kid might feel left out
Maddie was also newly pregnant. She was mated to Xavier, who was Knox's three times great nephew and would one day be the Alpha King. Maddie's pup was the heir to the throne, though it would be quite some time before that pup would sit on it, given that his great grandfather was sitting on it now.
Knox though still had yet to find his mate. He was twenty-six now and not overly worried about it. He'd find her in due time. He hadn't forgot about Leila though. He still thought about her more often than he'd like to and how much he'd enjoyed their night together. If he was going to jerk off, she was what he thought about and that magical night that he'd had with her. Unfortunately, he'd never seen her again after that, but he knew deep down that it was better that way and once he met his mate, he'd forget about her, which was the way it was supposed to be.
But the four-story library located in the Regal Eclipse packhouse was currently where Knox was hiding. He had spent plenty of time in that library over the years, getting lost in a good story. Unfortunately, he didn't get as much time in there now as he would like. He was just too busy.
Knox's schedule was full, and he was gone quite often, conducting business around the world. Remington Enterprises was huge, and every year, they seemed to take on more and more.
Knox was sitting up on the fourth floor, near the back wall, under a window, relaxing on a large beanbag while he read. It was mid-afternoon, and he had nothing to do until dinner. He'd spent the morning in the gym and the early afternoon checking his emails and taking care of anything urgent. Everything else could wait for another day.
He was reading a dark romance novel, something he hadn't done before. He definitely preferred fiction, and occasionally read romance as long as there was a good storyline to the book. This one was definitely interesting. The main characters were both questionable individuals though. Both of them serial killers. The plot had him intrigued.
Knox had never killed anyone before. He knew at some point in his life, he probably would have to, given that he was a werewolf in a pack that upheld the law. Werewolf law was strict, and for good reason. But Knox worked mostly in the human world, and didn't have to worry about things like that.
The book was still interesting, and it was a good way to pass the time. And the smut was pretty damn good too. It gave him some ideas. Now he just needed a woman to try them out on. He hadn't bothered with dating, and even going out to pick up women wasn't something he did much of. He never had. He scoffed to himself. He was kind of boring.
"Knox!"
Knox groaned and then clamped a hand over his mouth. Zara. He'd came here for peace and quiet, not to be harassed. Maybe if he kept really quiet, she wouldn't find him. Though that wasn't likely. She'd be able to scent him. He sighed.
The library was built in a way that he could walk over to the balcony and see all the way down to the first floor. There was a staircase that spiraled around the room and plenty of windows, including skylights that provided lots of natural light.
It didn't take Zara long to find him, which wasn't surprising. He heard her reach the top of the stairs, then she headed his way.
"Are you hiding?" She asked as she plopped down on the beanbag next to him.
"Yes." He didn't bother looking up from his book. He'd came up here for peace and quiet. Why hadn't she just mind linked him?
"Why?"
He shot a glare at her. "Because I'm trying to read and I don't want to sit and talk," he said with a sigh. Please go away.
"But I have a favor to ask of you." She smiled brightly at him.
He rolled his eyes. "That's why I'm up here hiding. I don't do favors." That was bullshit, but it sounded good, and so he went with it.
She moved so that she was laying on her side, eyeing the book he was currently reading. She made a soft sound, causing him to look at her. "You're like my two times great uncle, you know?"
"I'm only a few years older than you too," he muttered as he shoved his bookmark into his book. Zara wasn't going to leave until he agreed to whatever she wanted. She was nothing if not persistent. She had the Remington stubbornness that came directly from Caleb.
She glanced at him, her blue eyes flashing. "So, Amanda is not able to go with me on my next liaison job. Would you be willing to go instead?"
Knox sat his book down. He probably wasn't going to be able to finish it. He sat up and stared at her with a frown. Amanda and Zara always did their liaison gigs together. "Why isn't she going?"
"Her parents are taking her to Paris for her birthday," she said. "I'm so jealous. She's going to end up finding herself a French man who will make sweet love to her under the Eifel Tower."
Knox lifted a brow at her. She wasn't at all fanciful. And he wasn't touching that one with a ten-foot pole. Especially not with Zara, his own niece. Screw the greats. "So, you want me to be her stand in?"
"Yes?" She flashed a smile at him. 'Please?" She batted her lashes at him, causing him to roll his eyes again. Like that would work.
He sighed. "I'm not a liaison, Zara." And he had no desire to be one either.
"So? You just have to come along and look pretty. I'll do all the work, but Cade is not going to let me go alone."
Knox frowned, pinching the bridge of his nose. No Cade would never let her go alone. It was much too dangerous. Too many things could happen. "When and where?" He was so going to regret this.
She sat up and flung herself at him. "Thank you, thank you, thank you!"
