"I haven't agreed to anything," He awkwardly patted her on the back. Why did women have to be so touchy feely?

"Oh." She sat back and looked at him with a frown. "The Virginia Pack. We'd go in two days. In and out. I don't want to stay the night. Amanda and I usually don't."

Knox rubbed his jaw. He honestly wondered who had suggested that he go with her, or if this had been her own brilliant idea. "I have to check my schedule and make sure I don't have anything else going on. I have a trip to Dallas coming up in a few days."

She folded her arms and stared at him expectantly.

Knox stared back. He wanted her to just go away now so he could go back to his book.

"Are you going to check your calendar or not?" she asked, staring at him pointedly.

"You're a pain in my ass, Zara," he muttered, pulling out his phone and finding his calendar.

"I am not. I'm your favorite niece. Do we need to discuss how many greats?" A small smile touched her lips as she sat there watching him.

Knox rolled his eyes. His family was a little crazy. As members of the Royal Pack, they all had the gift of immortality. His father was well over a thousand years old, while his mother was four hundred years younger. And Knox was in his mid-twenties. He hadn't exactly been planned.

He had three siblings, and the age gap between them varied. His eldest brother, Daniel, was several hundred years older than him. His eldest sister, Charity was close to Daniel's age, while his youngest sister, Gabriella, was closer to his own age, though she was still well over a hundred years older than him.

Zara was Daniel's great, great granddaughter. And while the title of Alpha King ran through Daniel's line, Zara wasn't in line for the throne. She still carried the title of Princess though, like Knox himself carried the title of Prince. Not that he ever used it. There was no reason to. Though if he did this job as a liaison, they could end up referring to him that way. Or as Alpha. But he didn't care one way or the other.

He studied his calendar, looking over the next few days. He knew he didn't have anything happening, but he looked anyway. He knew the trip to Dallas wasn't for another five days. "I'm free. I suppose I could go with you, as long as Cade and Malachi agree to it."

"I'll ask them." She stood and started to walk away, then stopped and turned back to him. "Maybe you'll find your mate. Maybe I'll find mine."

Knox snorted. Probably not.

"Thanks, Knox!" Zara called over her shoulder.

Knox breathed a sigh of relief and opened his book back up. Maybe Zara was right. Maybe he'd find his mate. But he had a feeling she wasn't a she-wolf. If that was the case, then more than likely he'd find her while he was out conducting business, not while visiting a werewolf pack. But then again, he could be wrong.

Most of the Remington family had mated humans. Knox had heard so many times growing up that he would probably be mated to a human. He was fine with it. He'd just had no luck finding her so far.

Knox didn't know much about the Virginia pack except what his brother, Daniel, had told him. He knew one of the Alphas at one point had kidnapped Daniel's daughter with plans to take over as Alpha King. Of course, he hadn't been successful, and new leadership had been installed. Knox had no idea if the current Alpha was a descendant from that line or not.

Daniel had told him that they never had another problem with Virginia Pack since, which boded well for him and Zara. If he was going to go with her to do a pack visit, he'd rather it be uneventful. The last thing he wanted to do was take over a pack because the pack leadership couldn't do their jobs properly.

Knox could have been a pack liaison if he's so chosen to be one, but he hadn't. He did know how to be an Alpha though. Besides the fact that it was in his blood, he'd gone through training for it, though he hadn't taken the class at Cuyahoga University like some of his pack mates had. At some point he might switch over and become a liaison if he grew bored with Remington Enterprises or he just couldn't find his mate, but then again maybe not.

Knox turned his attention back to the book he was reading. The story line was getting good, and he was very invested. He needed to know what happened and had a feeling he might be able to finish the book before dinner.

Another half hour passed before he got a mind link from Cade. Hey. Did Zara talk to you?

About Virginia Pack? Yeah, she did, Knox responded, closing his book. It seemed as though he just wasn't finishing it today.

Did you actually agree to it?

Knox laughed out loud at that. Yeah, I agreed to it. Reluctantly.

Okay, just making sure. Though frankly, if you don't want to do it, I'm sure I can find someone else, Cade offered.

No, that's okay. I'll go.

Okay. Thanks for doing this, Knox.

It's no problem. Knox stood, knowing he might as well head up to his apartment. It was an hour until dinner anyway and he was starving.

Two days later, Knox found himself on the plane with Zara, heading for Virginia Pack. She has been rather quiet so far, her laptop open as she sat, reading. Knox knew she'd was reading over the notes from previous pack visits, refreshing her memory. He had his own laptop as well, and had accessed the pack files the day before, committing the last few visits to memory.

He sat back, closing his eyes. He was basically just coming along for moral support. "What's the Alpha's name?" He should at least know that. He hadn't paid attention to it last night.

Zara didn't bother looking up. "Jensen."

Alpha Jensen. He remembered reading that the Alpha was a bit arrogant. Not surprising. He was an Alpha. They all had a bit of arrogance in them.

"Don't worry. I won't let you look like an idiot," Zara said with a smile as she shut her laptop. She packed it away and leaned back in her seat. "This visit should be cake."

The plane descended and they both got up after it stopped, grabbing their bags. Knox followed Zara off the plane, his gaze darting out to the man who was waiting for them.

"That's Beta Russell," Zara said quietly.

"Gotcha."

The Beta was older, and Knox got the impression he had been Beta for quite a while. Which meant more than likely, all of the pack leadership had been in charge for a long time. That wasn't a bad thing, in his estimation. Less problems. They should all know what they were doing at this point.

They walked across the tarmac towards the Beta, who stood with his arms crossed, eyeing Knox. Knox stared right back at him until the Beta looked away. Knox narrowed his eyes. He knew the other man was already judging him. He wouldn't be able to pick up on Knox's aura or rank at all.

The Beta plastered a smile on his face as they got closer and bowed his head to Zara. "Princess Zara. Welcome to Virginia Pack." His gaze flicked back to Knox.

"This is Knox," Zara told him.

Knox glanced at Zara but didn't bother to say anything. The Beta could think what he wanted. Zara hadn't bothered with his last name, and Knox had a feeling she had her reasons for that.

Beta Russell just nodded to him, which was fine with Knox, who nodded back. "Beta."

"Okay, let's get back to the pack," Beta Russell said, turning back to the van he'd brought with him.

Knox eyed the old thing quietly, but didn't say anything. He opened the passenger door for Zara, then climbed in the back himself, while Beta Russell got behind the wheel.

Russell was quiet, not saying a word on the drive back to the pack house. Zara didn't ask him any questions, and Knox just sat looking out the window, eyeing the property. There pack lands were set up like a small town, and Russell drove up the street, passing small businesses and homes. Everything was neat and the people walked along looking relaxed as they stopped to chat with each other. Everything seemed to be in order. Another good sign that boded well for the pack leadership.
