Knox felt completely dead inside. Waking up to find his father and his brother in the room wasn't really a surprise, or at least not after his mind had cleared enough to realize he had his hand wrapped around his brother's throat. He'd just reacted, his body on alert after everything that had happened to him. At least Daniel hadn't reacted, which wasn't really a surprise. His brother had been calm through the entire exchange.
And that's when it had all hit him, much harder than he was prepared for. The pain of betrayal, the pain of having a half-assed bond with her that she'd used to hurt him all came crashing down on him as his link to his wolf was restored and he suddenly went from being mostly human to being a werewolf again.
Romeo howled in his mind, then whimpered, shocked at how cruel she'd been to them both. His wolf was just as hurt as he was, and furious at what she'd done to them. Furious at her lack of respect for the bond, and how she'd done what she'd done to a man who was her other half. Her soul mate. Or supposed to be.
Knox didn't even really know Caelan and yet she'd been so cruel to him. So twisted. He didn't get it, couldn't understand how anyone could be that sadistic. Something was seriously wrong with her if she was capable of doing what she'd done to her own mate and getting off on it all. He'd seen the gleam in her eyes, and how turned on she'd been from it all. It blew his mind that she could be so utterly screwed up.
But Knox was done. He'd told his story. He'd never repeat what had happened again if he could help it. He wanted to see her and her lover dead, and then he wanted to leave. He needed to leave. He needed to go somewhere else and lick his wounds. To recover from the gaping hole she'd created in his chest.
His gaze moved to his father. "I want to end this."
"Do you really think you'll be able to go through with it?" Daniel asked him.
Knox didn't look at his brother. He just kept his gaze on the man that had sired him.
"I don't know if Malachi will agree, but okay," Caleb said quietly. "He's King. The final decision is his."
Daniel's gaze snapped to his father, and whatever he saw there made him release a sardonic breath. "Let's end this, then."
They all three got up and left the room then. Knox followed his family into the Alpha's office. Zara was still sitting at the desk, her father right behind her and off to the left. Dominic was standing by the window, a file in his hand, while Malachi stood in front of the desk, glaring at them. "This isn't a good idea."
Knox wasn't surprised that Malachi already knew everything. Either Caleb or Daniel would have relayed it to him while Knox told his story. He looked up at Malachi, meeting his gaze. Malachi stared back, and his gaze flickered to his grandfather and great grandfather. He shook his head. "Fine. I don't agree, but whatever. Let's get this over with. The execution of the Alpha though will take place in front of the entire pack."
"Let's do it then," Daniel said, and they left the room.
Zara led them out of the pack house and down to the prison. Knox could hear her before he could see her, and he steeled himself for his reaction to her. He'd never admit it, but he'd almost rather not be doing this. He didn't want to see her again, but he also needed to make sure she was dead. She'd broken something in him. Something he wasn't sure could ever be fixed.
He followed Malachi down the aisle until they were standing outside the prison cell. Caelan was inside and she was enraged.
"Let me out!" she screamed. "I'm the Alpha's daughter! Who the hell are you?"
"I'm the Alpha King," Malachi shouted at her, releasing his aura.
Caelan immediately shut up; her eyes wide. Her gaze moved to Knox. "You're still alive."
