Serene's POV
The sun peeked through the sheer curtains of my bedroom, casting soft patterns across the floor as I stretched lazily in bed.
My heart fluttered with excitement at the thought of Aki waiting for me downstairs. My Aki. Actually, her full name is Akihiro Zyd but other people call her Zyd.
I gave her the nickname Aki, and I told her that I should only be the one to call her that and she's fine with it.
While me, she calls me Serene. I hate people calling me that, because it was only meant for her. Only she gets to call me by that name.
She was always there, like a guardian angel, ready to whisk me away to school.
I'm currently in my 3rd year in college, taking political science. I wanted to be a lawyer, far from my family's legacy. That's not a problem though, my family has always been supportive of me.
Meanwhile, Aki was five years older than me so she was now working. She's the CEO of their family's company. She has a lot of responsibilities but she always makes time for me.
I hurried through my morning routine, brushing my hair and choosing a pastel sweater that I knew Aki would compliment. I couldn't help but smile at the thought of her teasing me about my wardrobe choices.
There was something comforting about her presence—her laughter, her gentle nudges, and the way she always seemed to know what I needed.
As I dashed down the grand staircase, I could hear her voice echoing softly from the living room. She was talking with my brother and parents about business, as usual.
I entered the living room, and there she was, the epitome of calm and grace. Aki looked up, her dark hair falling effortlessly over her shoulder. Her eyes sparkled when they met mine, and my heart raced.
"Good morning, kiddo!" she said, a playful smirk gracing her lips.
"Akiiii! Good morning!" I chirped, practically bouncing on my toes. I went towards her and hugged her so tight. She just chuckled and let me.
Then I went to my parents and brother to greet them. "Good morning mom, dad." I kissed their cheeks.
"Good morning to you too, brother."
"Good morning, princess." My daddy said.
I then went back to sit beside Aki.
"Are you ready to drive me to school?" I asked her. "Always," she replied, fixing her bag. "But you know the rules: we have to leave in ten minutes."
I pouted playfully, as I moved closer to her. "But I wanted to spend more time with you! Can't we just... I don't know, skip school today?"
Aki chuckled, shaking her head. "As much as I'd love to indulge that idea, you have classes to attend, and I'm not letting you fall behind."
"Ugh, you're such a buzzkill!" I teased, leaning against her and wrapping my arms around her waist. It felt so natural to cling to her like this, to act a little needy. Aki didn't mind; in fact, I suspected she secretly enjoyed it.
"Maybe, but I'm your buzzkill," she replied, her tone softening. "And I care about you too much to let you skip school all the time."
I looked up at her, my heart swelling with affection. "You're the best, you know that? I don't know what I'd do without you."
She smiled down at me, her warmth radiating like sunlight. "You'd be just fine, Serene. You're strong and capable. But I like being here for you."
"Yeah, but it's more fun when you're around," I insisted, pulling her closer. "You make everything better."
