Tay leaned back in his chair, massaging the bridge of his nose. Finding a new secretary had been a bigger ordeal than he expected. After the disaster with Gun and the inappropriate flirting from others, Tay was determined to find someone who wouldn’t complicate things—someone professional, competent, and mature. He had grown tired of navigating office drama, and after countless interviews, he finally found someone who stood out: Jumpol Adulkittiporn, or as everyone called him, Off.

Off was older than Tay by a few years, with a calm, steady presence that put everyone at ease. His experience in managing people, projects, and office dynamics was clear from the start. Tay was impressed by how effortlessly Off handled the workload, but more importantly, how he treated everyone with respect and kindness. He wasn’t just an efficient worker—he was the kind of person who would help a struggling employee with their tasks, or cheer up someone having a rough day with a few kind words.

Within weeks, Off had won over the entire office, including Tay, who found himself trusting his new secretary implicitly. Off was humble, approachable, and, to Tay’s relief, completely uninterested in anything beyond professionalism. The office felt lighter, more positive, and with New’s internship coming to an end, things were finally settling down.

While Tay was managing his responsibilities at work, New was enjoying a much-needed break. His internship had been a success, and though he loved working alongside Tay, he was ready to recharge. Tay had insisted that New take some time for himself, and New couldn’t argue—he was exhausted.

For the first few days, New’s routine consisted of sleeping in late, lounging around the house, and indulging in all his favorite shows. There was something comforting about being able to do nothing for a while. And whenever Tay came home, he was met with the sight of his husband, wrapped in a blanket on the couch, looking adorable as he flipped through TV channels or dozed off mid-movie.

New’s days were also filled with long, lively phone calls with his best friend, Nunew. Nunew was in the middle of planning his wedding to his fiancé, Zee, and every conversation was a whirlwind of excitement, gossip, and laughter. New couldn’t be happier for Nunew. Zee was perfect for him—steady, loving, and as mischievous as Nunew himself. New would often giggle as Nunew recounted the latest silly thing Zee had done, imagining their dynamic unfolding in their married life.

“I swear, Zee is going to drive me crazy before the wedding even happens,” Nunew sighed one afternoon, as the two friends chatted over the phone. “But in the best way, of course.”

New chuckled, tucking his legs beneath him on the couch. “It’s because he’s obsessed with you, Nunu. You’re all he talks about.”

“And that’s exactly the problem!” Nunew laughed. “He keeps trying to plan these ridiculous surprises, but they always backfire. Last week he tried to cook me a romantic dinner, but we ended up eating takeout because he almost burned down the kitchen.”

“Sounds like Tay,” New said fondly, thinking of how Tay always tried so hard to impress him, even in the smallest ways. “But I think it’s sweet. They just want to make us happy.”

“You’re right,” Nunew sighed dramatically. “But sometimes I think Zee forgets I’m happy just being with him, no surprises necessary.”

New smiled. He understood what Nunew meant. Love wasn’t about grand gestures or perfect moments; it was about being there for each other in the quiet times, in the ordinary, everyday moments that no one else saw.
