A new day.

A new start.

With the same thought, Shawn woke up everyday and encouraged himself to go on, spiritual and refreshed.

Today wasn't anything unusual as the boy got out of the bed and stood before his window, undraping the curtains and letting the sunlight filter inside his room.

It was indeed a beautiful day, sunny and warm, the birds' chirps boosted his energy on another level as he grabbed his glasses off the nightstand and went to the washroom to freshen up and start this amazing day.

At breakfast table, his whole family was already there, with his mom at the end of it and dada serving delicious pancakes.

"Good morning, guys." Shawn greeted and got everyone to look up at him with a smile.

"Good morning, bud." Aaron grabbed another plate and served his son. "Enjoy."

Shawn nodded gratefully and sat down on his designated chair, next to his younger brother, Oliver.

"Hey, Ollie. Whatcha got there?" He asked, noticing Oliver zoned in on his phone with a grumpy expression on.

"Nothing much." The latter replied without looking up from his phone.

"Oliver, no phones at the table." Aaron warned, putting syrup on a stack of pancakes for the youngest family member, Shawn's only sister, Odette.

"Dad, just a min. Don't be a bummer no-" before he could finish though, his eyes landed on the identical ones, glaring at him and he stopped, immediately putting his phone back in his pocket.

Aaron stifled a smirk, the perfect glare, he thought and sneakily took his wife's hand from under the table to give it a squeeze and relax her.

"I've told you enough times before, do not talk back to your father in such manner, Oliver." Destiny's cold but motherly voice silences the table.

Oliver, now looking even more grumpy and pouty, nodded his head.

"Sorry, mom. Sorry, dad."

"It's okay, love. Now everyone, begin." Aaron quickly dismissed the tensed atmosphere.

Well, it's a regular scene during their family times, it's not easy to keep up the peace with two people harboring the same energy and grumpy personalities.

"Shawn, drop your sister off at her school today and Oliver will be riding with me." Aaron stated.

"Sorry, baby. I wish I could give you a lift today but my meeting's early and I have to leave right about now." Destiny said and gave Aaron such soft, puppy eyes, which got their kids to stare in disbelief.

They barely see this expression on their mother's face, it's only ever while looking at their father and they always found it hard to believe that their mom was capable of such sweetness.

Well, for Shawn, it was different. He caught glimpses of that sweetness more often than the others. Being the first born son, Destiny have always had a soft spot for him. She did love her kids equally but with the manners of Oliver, it often lured them into fights. And Odette's a dada's girl so she stayed out of others' shadows to avoid conflict.

"It's okay, Ottie. We can handle it." Aaron assured his wife and leaned over to kiss her lips softly.

Shawn watched their interaction with a soft smile, his heart warm and happy to have such endearing and loving parents, and to have witnessed their love blossoming with each passing year, he's got this yearning building inside of him.

A yearning to have something like that. To have someone to call his own. But with his shy demeanor and social anxiety, he wonders if anyone, if she, would ever look at him that way.
