It was a silly kid's birthday party, so why was she even bothering about dressing up so well? Why did it even matter?

Because Shawn would be there, a voice spoke in the back of her head and Janette grumbled, puffing out a fallen strand off her forehead as she tossed away the 5th dress.

"Need help?" She turned to the door to spot her dad standing by the doorframe with a smile.

"I'm good." She replied, keeping her gaze fixed on the mirror as she held up a lime color top.

"Shawn likes yellow. Maybe try that one." Jayden pointed to a crop top.

"Who cares about what he likes?" Despite sounding nonchalant, Janette picked up the yellow top and held it against her body.

Jayden hid his smirk as he flopped down on the loveseat situated in his daughter's walk-in closet.

"You do." Janette glared at him. "If not then why do you have all your yellow shaded clothes out?" He quirked a brow and Janette felt awkward getting caught red-handed.

"Leave now, dad. I'm gonna get ready."

Chuckling a little, Jayden stood up to leave but not before lingering a bit to ask something.

"Is it a date?" He chirped.

Janette shot him another glare, "No! It's a stupid kid's birthday party."

Jayden clicked his tongue in thought, "Why are you going then?"

Before she could answer though, another voice chimed in, replying in her stead;

"Because Shawn asked her to."

Jayden turned to his wife with a knowing smile, both of their eyes glinting with mischief and Janette was an inch away from bursting.

"Leave guys!" She whine-yelled.

"Okay, okay." Jayden held up his hands in surrender, chuckling and then wrapping his arm around Genevieve's waist. "Just be careful, darling. Shawn's a soft boy, don't mislead him." He added in a more firm and serious fatherly tone.

Janette's heart twisted at his words, she released a shaky breath but didn't look at her parents.

"Always be honest about your own feelings too." Genevieve advised as they both left their girl alone to sort out her thoughts.

"I wish she could see just how much Shawn is into her." Jayden said sadly to his wife as they walked away.

"I know, baby." Genevieve comforted, "But we can't force her into anything. She needs to realize her feelings on her own. Otherwise both of them would end up getting hurt."

Nodding, Jayden sighed longly and hugged his wife close.

Only Fate could bring these two together now.

Janette arrived at the Archer residence around 6. She offered to drive the siblings to their designated address so that she could take Shawn on a drive later, after they'd dropped Odette back at their home.

"Jane, come on inside, sweetie." Aaron beamed, admiring the daughter of his best friend. "You've become so beautiful." He gushed.

"Thanks, uncle Aaron. But I'm good here, just call Shawn for me." She smiled politely.

"He's ready, just getting Odette." He said. "How's Jadey? Everything okay at home?"

"Dad's fine, just a little busy due to the new opening of the restaurant."

"Oh right! I totally forgot, I should call and congratulate him on the new opening. Say hi to mom and dad for me, okay?"
