The breath caught in my throat.

Another meeting.

Another step deeper into the unknown.

I should have said no.

I should have walked away, blocked his number, and never looked back.

But as I stared at the note, I knew I wouldn't do any of those things.

I was too far in now.

Too intrigued.

Too tempted.

By the time 8 PM rolled around, I was standing outside the rooftop bar, my heart racing in my chest.

The city lights flickered all around me, and I could hear the soft hum of music coming from inside.

The place was upscale, elegant, a far cry from the quiet life I was used to.

I took a deep breath and pushed open the door, stepping into the bar.

The atmosphere was chic, with dim lighting and sleek furniture.

People were scattered around, sipping cocktails and laughing softly.

I felt out of place, but I kept walking, my eyes scanning the room.

And then I saw him.
