"You don't need to be afraid," I said, stepping closer to her, watching the way her breath hitched slightly. "I'm not going to hurt you."

She looked up at me, her eyes wide, filled with questions she wasn't ready to ask.

I could see the struggle in her—the part of her that wanted to run and the part of her that couldn't stay away.

"I don't understand any of this," she said softly, her voice trembling.

I reached out, brushing a strand of hair behind her ear, and she flinched slightly but didn't move away.

"You will. In time."

I guided her to a chair near the window, offering her a seat.

She sat down slowly, her eyes never leaving mine.

I could tell she was trying to remain calm, but her nervousness was written all over her face.

"Why me?" she asked suddenly, her voice shaking. "Why have you been following me? What do you want from me?"
