I had chosen this place on purpose—quiet, private, a world away from the one she was used to.

When she approached, I could see the hesitation in her eyes, but she came anyway.

"You're braver than I thought," I said, watching her closely. "Most people would've walked away."

She looked at me, her eyes wide but steady.

"I don't know why I'm here."

I smiled at that, leaning in just slightly. "But you came."

She didn't answer.
