Chaitanya's POV
"I sat in my Mumbai room, reeling from the sudden turn my life had taken. The people who once proudly celebrated my achievements now discouraged me from advancing my career. I couldn't shake the thought, despite knowing I should let it go. What frightened me most was how society's expectations had become my parents' priority, crushing my dreams beneath their feet. My mother had beamed with pride when I secured my job and gained independence, but now she urged me to marry and start a family."
"'Hukum, dinner's ready!' he called from the kitchen. His voice broke the spell, and I realized I'd been crying. My eyes stung, so I quickly headed to the bathroom to wash my face. I didn't want Hukum to worry; he'd already dropped everything to care for me, putting his work aside while I struggled."
"I went towards the kitchen and wrapped my arms around Hukum from behind, seeking comfort. He turned, his warm smile soothing my worries. As I nestled my face against his back, his gentle hand covered mine, holding me close."
"The pain of my parents' betrayal still lingered, their words echoing in my mind: 'Society and marriage matter more than you.' I clung to Hukum, my anchor in the storm. 'Hukum, you're tired too,' I said, my voice muffled against his back. 'Why make so many dishes?'"
"'I'm not that tired, Hukum,' he said, turning to me and enveloping me in a warm embrace. 'We're celebrating your success, and I wanted to make your favorite dishes special.'
Hukum has become my tranquil haven in a chaotic life. He's the one I run to in times of trouble and sorrow, trusting he'll help make things right. I know he's not a miracle worker, but being with him, spending time together, makes my worries fade. I cherish every moment with him, my Hukum."
"Tears of happiness welled up in my eyes as I gazed at Hukum, celebrating my success and comforting me with such kindness. We'd only met a few months ago, yet he'd become my rock.
I smiled, and he gently wiped away my tears. "No more tears, jaana," he whispered, holding me close. "It's time to celebrate."
At the dining table, Hukum pulled out my chair, and I sat, feeling cherished. He served me the starters, then himself. The first bite of the veg kebabs melted in my mouth, and I moaned in delight. "This is incredible, Hukum!" I exclaimed.
He smiled softly. "Thank you."
Curiosity got the better of me. "Hukum, can I ask you something?" He nodded, his eyes encouraging.
"How did you convince my parents to let me go?" I asked, still puzzled.
"It was nothing, beta," he replied. "I just made them understand how crucial this opportunity is for your success."
I doubted his simplicity, remembering how my own pleas had fallen on deaf ears. There was more to the story, but Hukum wasn't revealing it. I nodded, choosing to trust him.
"We savored dinner in comfortable silence, a peaceful respite for me. Afterward, I helped Hukum clear the table while he took care of the dishes, and I cleaned the kitchen.
Settled on the sofa, TV remote in hand, I asked Hukum, "What do you want to watch?"
"Anything you like," he replied.
I pressed for a decision. "Romance, comedy, or action thriller?"
Hukum shrugged. "I don't really watch movies, so I don't know."
I chose Frozen, intrigued by his indifference. As the movie began, Hukum's gaze drifted to me, his shining eyes captivating.
I raised an eyebrow, questioning his distraction. He smiled and returned his attention to the screen.
Lost in the movie, I forgot about Hukum's gaze until the interval. I turned to him, finding his eyes already locked on mine."
"'What happened?' I asked Hukum, but instead of answering, he pulled me close, and I collided with his chest. His eyes sparkled with mischief.
I raised an eyebrow, questioning his intentions, but he remained silent, encircling his arms around my shoulders.
The movie resumed, and I refocused on the screen. Before I knew it, I was snuggled on Hukum's lap, my head resting on his shoulder.
Surprised, I looked up at him. 'How did I end up in your lap?' I asked.
Hukum shrugged, his smile hinting at secrets. 'Maybe you just like sitting on my lap,' he teased.
Irritated by his evasive responses, I pressed on. 'Hukum, what's going on?'
He chuckled, his eyes crinkling. 'Nothing, jaana. I don't know how you ended up here. Maybe it's just fate.'"
"I attempted to rise from Hukum's lap, but he secured his hold on my waist, resting his head on my shoulder. I was trapped, yet couldn't help but caress his silky hair. He sighed, relaxing further.
Five minutes passed, our gentle embrace a haven. "Hukum, let me go," I whispered.
Instead, he traced his nose from my shoulder to neck, nesting his face in the crook. I fought to contain my smile as butterflies swirled within. A gentle peck sent heat flushing my cheeks and neck.
I turned, cradling his face in my hands. Our eyes locked, and without a word, our lips touched. My breath caught, lungs frozen. I closed my eyes, savoring the moment.
Time stood still as our lips lingered, neither pulling back. Hukum's grip on my waist tightened, his control slipping. I retreated, hesitant to open my eyes.
An eternity passed before his gentle caress on my cheeks registered. I hid my face in the crook of his neck, smiling."
"We sat in comfortable silence, Hukum's fingers gently weaving through my hair. I broke the quiet, my voice trembling.
"I'll miss you, Hukum."
He looked at me, vulnerability etched on his face. "I'll miss you more, jaana," he whispered, his eyes betraying his fear of being left behind.
"I'll call you every day," I promised, holding him close.
"I'll wait for your call," he replied.
I shot him a playful glare. "So you won't call me? You'll just wait for me to call?"
Hukum's hands cradled my cheeks, his touch soothing. "I don't want to disturb you, jaana."
I smiled, noticing his telltale habit. "You can't keep your hands to yourself, can you?"
His gentle smile confirmed my observation."
"We sat together, hands intertwined, our love blossoming in silence. Though unspoken, our connection was palpable - we both knew how much we meant to each other.
In Hukum's gentle grasp, I felt safe and at peace. My eyelids grew heavy, and I drifted into a profound slumber, lulled by the warmth of his presence."
