"I knew Azul was buttering me up." Naeem spoke as he set his fork down. He grabbed his napkin and wiped his mouth. "Go ahead and sit down." He spoke looking into Nani's eyes. She sighed as she took the seat across from him.
He looked her over and folded his arms. "Speak your mind freely."
Naomi sighed. "I still haven't opened the door to build a relationship with my mom." Naeem frowned. She looked him over. "What?"
"I thought you was coming here to get on me about Asad."
"For what? I've gotten over the fact that your brothers." She shrugged. "He's going to do whatever for you. He also does whatever for me. It's a balance he needs."
Naeem nodded his head. "Alright well why you ain't talking to your mom?"
"Honestly. I've been so content with being alone, letting Asad in took a lot. Do I really have to let her in too? I mean I'm thankful she had me. But. I just don't see the point." Nani folded her arms.
She watched as Naeem picked up his drink. He took a sip of it before sitting back in his seat. "Why are you talking to me about this? You know how I felt about Victoria." He looked into her eyes. "Asad."
"Has never had a mother." Nani filled in for him. "He just tells me that I'm lucky to have one. That I should put in more effort."
"Right. You think I'm going to tell you to hate your mom because I did." He laughed. "Sorry to break it to you Nani that's not how life works."
"You mean the cartel?" She rolled her eyes. He looked her over. Nani wished she could be a thought in his head at the moment.
"I love my mother Nani. She didn't love me. Not the other way around. I stand with Asad on the matter. You should be putting in some effort to get to know her. Especially if she's reaching out to you. Who truly wants to be alone?"
"Nobody." Nani whispered.
"She's alone. As long as you've been alone, so has she. You made her world, they took her from you." He looked into her eyes. "Do you understand that? She didn't have a say in the matter."
"Why does she get one now?" Nani whispered.
"Because she's your damn mother. The only person who will truly have your back. If you wanted to escape from us she has the means to do so." He looked into her eyes.
"Escape? Why would I?" Nani stopped talking and sighed. "That's why Asad is pushing for me to get to know her? I don't want to leave him."
